Not saying my thoughts ...

Yesterday I handled a new Henry Long Ranger lever gun in .223/5.56 (yep Henry says 5.56). It's 5 shot removable box mag fed, 20" 1:9 barrel, not heavy barreled, decent carbine size and weight. The LGS owner says $825 cash out the door.

What say you guys about Henry's little idea?

Kind of a cool idea. $825 seems a little steep though for a henry lever gun.

Being Left Handed I like the idea of it in 308, but would liked to see it in stainless with a synthetic stock, and a threaded 16-18" barrel.

I:7 or a 1:8 barrel would have been better. The 5 round box mag will help out not getting the barrel too hot but they shold have made it a little thicker. Cool idea, but what can/will it do that a inexpensive AR won't?

I'm going to revive this thread. I'm going to look at one if these. I can't decide if I want it in 556 or 243. I saw a you tube video and it did well with 50gr bullets all the way up to 69gr bullets at 100 yards. It did best with the 69gr.

The caliber would be a tough choice for me as well, I’ve got more than enough .223/5.56 rifles, I currently have .308 that might end up in the chopping block to be replaced with a .224 Valkyrie but I’m not sure yet.

The .223/5.56 would be way cheaper to shoot and I personally would shoot it a lot in that caliber, if I ended up parting with my PA10 then I’d buy the Henry in .243 without a second thought, I have next to zero knowledge of the caliber but it’s one of those rounds that I’ve always thought was pretty dang cool and having a lever gun in .243 would definitely be something you won’t see every day.

Now if the script was flipped and they made it in .224 Valkyrie with a period correct looking scope that would be insanely cool!

I thought it would be cool to shoot the 556 with heavier bullets for deer and smaller game.

That sounds pretty neat. It would allow some combos for reloaders that wouldn't run a semi reliably.

One in .300 Blackout with a threaded barrel would be a seller I suspect.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'd love a cheaper alternative to a Browning BLR. I had one in .308 that I loved, but it was "too nice".
