Has anyone reading this thread tried it before?

I saw an ad for it somewhere and was intrigued so I ordered a 3 pack of hotdog buns. Each pack has 4 buns but you can freeze what you’re not going to immediately consume.

Supposedly select Subway stores offer an Italian hoagie bun made by Hero.

They offer hotdog and hamburger buns, hoagie/sub rolls, and regular sliced bread. They may offer dinner rolls as well.

My shipment of hotdog buns is expected this Thursday.

This is net 0 carb bread. It has rave reviews but unfortunately is ridiculously expensive.

I haven’t had a hotdog since last summer after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. My last A1C was 5.5 so I definitely got it under control. I just want to keep it that way.

If no one has tried this bread, I’m planning on grilling some dogs Thursday evening if they get here and will post a review.

When I’m able to have solid foods again, I may give these a shot

waiting for the review, I have tried several other keto "breads/buns" and have been fairly disappointed. Although the Arnold brand that food lion sells for sandwich bread is ok.

I had two hot dogs yesterday evening with these Hero brand buns. They were very good.

I could not tell the difference between these buns and a regular hot dog bun.

However, I was traveling this morning and didn’t get a chance to check my glucose level to verify that the two buns I had yesterday didn’t cause it to spike.

I’ll do that the next time.

I ate three beer brats yesterday evening with these Hero buns while watching the Clemson vs GA Tech game.

I checked my glucose this morning and it was normal (98).

So this bread does not have a negative effect on blood sugar for a type 2 diabetic, at least not mine anyway.

Check your glucose level before you eat the bread and then check it again 2 hrs after eating it, to see how it really affects your glucose. According to my diabetic dietician, you ideally want to see a spike of less than 40 points 2 hrs later.

I’ve done that before for several months after I was diagnosed last year.

With my experience I have determined it’s just as easy to check it the next morning. Whenever I have eaten something the night before that is high carb/sugar, my glucose is always elevated, above normal, the next morning.

For example: On Aug. 26th we held a 90th birthday party for my Dad up in Charleston WV. The dinner consisted of filet mignon, broccoli/cauliflower, and scalloped potatoes.

I knew I shouldn’t eat the potatoes but it was a special occasion so I indulged myself. No alcohol, just unsweetened tea for the drink. The next morning? My glucose was 138.

I realize these buns may temporarily elevate my glucose, but if my level is normal the next morning, I’m good with it.

I understand what you are doing, but it is the big spikes that cause the damage to the body, so minimizing them is important.

Since I started using the Libre 2 continuous glucose monitor a couple months back, I have lowered my A1C 2.1 points. That was mainly by being aware of and trying to eliminating the big spikes.

Looking on line, it looks like Aldi carries a keto white bread and buns, and is less expensive, approx. $5/loaf. Buns approx. $3.65/pack. I Have not tried it yet, just saw it on line.
