Hey Canes fans

Wish they weren’t getting their asses kicked right now. Hope they can turn it around when they play at home. They are going to have to turn up the heat.

While I hated to see the Canes go out without a win in the series, there’s definitely no disappointment. The mere fact that they were in the playoffs after having such a rough start to the season was pretty darn amazing. They fought hard and did all they could to win. In addition, this young team brought hockey back to North Carolina. People are actually talking about hockey down here which I think is awesome. Kudos to the fans that were there last night that stood up and cheered to show their appreciation for all that the Canes accomplished this year. That got me all up in my feelings. I look forward to seeing what they do next year as this team grows.

As far as the next round goes, with that beast of a goalie, I can’t imagine the Bruins not taking home the cup, but we’ll see.

I hope the Bruins lose to whoever they play. Brought hockey back to NC? I never knew it left? I've been going to the Checkers games since the mid sixties!

Got a carolina hockey question for you - "The Lions Den"... who was that? I got a pic of me in front of a sign that says that, about 1994 or 1995
Greensboro or Charlotte, not sure.
But I was into hockey at the time (Go Rangers!), so Im thinking I mustve wanted my pic in front of a hockey sign

Regardless of what they say on TV don’t give the goalie all the credit. I was at the game Tuesday and watched the whole series. The Bruins defensemen and team defense pretty much gave Rask a clear view of virtually every shot and cleared the rebounds. Some of that was probably a Cane weakness to have big strong guys at the net that like dirty work, but Charra had a ton of ice time in game 3 and clearly intimidated the Canes. And Carlo is a massive guy too. The Bruins physically owned their defensive zone and played great team defense. Canes also don’t seem to have a bunch of snipers. They have some good skaters and grit, but they don’t have that guy your fear getting his shot off.

Edit - McAvoy might have been the most impressive guy I saw in that series. He is always in the right spot and skates like a winger. He zipped through the neutral zone at will. There was definitely a talent difference between the teams. And the payrolls show that.

Maybe you took a road trip to South Carolina?

Was not trying to discount the rest of the team. They all played well and games can’t be won by a goalie alone. But I also can’t ignore the many shots the Canes took that he swatted away like it was nothing.

The only place is I see it discussed is this thread. I haven’t heard the Hurricanes mentioned outside of CFF...not work, home, church, or just out and about...in years. :p

Well you live in Charlotte and Charlotte sucks. All the cool people that like hockey live elsewhere.

Excerpt that Charlotte is also full of Yankees. And Yankees love hockey. :p

I think all the ones here are Steelers fans...

Been googling around, using the banner as reference - Carolina Monarchs, later the Greensboro Monarchs in ECHL

I saw some Monarchs games in Raleigh against the Icecaps. Canes played in Greensboro their first season too. It was super easy to get tickets for those games.

Looks like this team folded when the Canes were coming to GSO, played in the same place etc

Ive never cared for hockey. When the canes are in it i wish them. The only sports i care about is baseball and racing and i dont watch either of thoes anymore.

That is what I have experienced, as well, until this play off season. Now when I where my Caps Ovechkin shirt everyone wants to stop me to talk hockey. I’ve heard a lot more “Go Canes” and “bunch of jerks” comments lately, as well.

Like many of the other sports, the interest grows up from the college ranks. NC State needs a hockey team!

State had a very good non varsity team back when I was in college. Hard for schools to break into college ranks because of the way the conferences are set up for hockey.

WCHA would take them. They are the island of misfit hockey teams. But you have to have travel budget. The trips to Alaska are brutal.
