HMX-1/Marine 1

A friend of mine Major Mike Stanton flew for Reagan

When I was a flight medic one of our pilots had flown there. Clinton's time, I believe.

I flew there for four years.
He did a really good job of describing the squadron. Talked right on the edge of the stuff we're not likely to discuss.

I had no idea about the green side mission. It was fascinating.

Cool - tagging for later. I worked with a guy who was an enlisted Marine MP assigned to HMX-1 in the late '70 - early '80s. He was one of those guys you see saluting the President when getting on or off the aircraft. He was 6'5" and said that all of his peers were about the same height.

Those are the crew chiefs.

Here's the story on why they do not wear flight suits: they were flying Jackie Kennedy, and the aircrew was in flight suits. She asked why, someone said they were nomex and flame retardant. She asked why were important enough for the crew, but not her the POTUS. Ever since then the pilots wear Charlies and the crew chief wear Alphas.

At one time HMX 1 was issued Glock 19M handguns. I don’t know if they mentioned that on the video as I haven’t yet watched it. I also don’t know if that had changed to the M18 from sig now or not
