I just picked up a hill people recon kit bag for running and mountain biking. My running shorts pockets suck and I'm sick of worrying about my phone bouncing out of the pockets or loosing my keys, etc.

So now, I'm trying to figure out what kind of holster I want to use with it.

The bag has a single vertical strip of velcro down the middle of the bag and a webbing loop at the bottom of the bag at the bottom of the velcro strip as options to secure a holster for your pistol.

Would you think using a webbing type holster would be good? Think it is safe enough to cover the trigger of a striker fired gun?
Other options I was considering are a lanyard/trigger guard type holster or a kydex folded style holster with velcro on the back. The nice thing about the folded kydex holster would be the full sweat guard.

I'd think the trigger guard/lanyard would be out simply because it'd bounce around too much.

I use the maxpedition universal in my do-all bag that I take fishing, hiking, climbing, EDC....anywhere I need my man purse. It does very well with an XDs size pistol. I'm obviously not running or biking with it, so you may be more "bouncy" than I am, but I'd expect it to hold in place.

It will be used to carry an XDs sized pistol.

I have the Maxped universal holster insert in a Maxped bag. It works pretty well, but
  1. the bag's velcro strip is horizontal, so there's a lot of contact area between the bag and holster insert
  2. I haven't tried running with it, so the bouncing from running or MTB may be an issue. Then again, if the entire bag is bouncing, then maybe not an issue. Depends on how much bouncing of the pistol relative to the bag occurs.
That said, the universal holster is adjustable, so you can make it a very tight fit, which might be sufficient to prevent the pistol from sliding out of the holster.

I think the kydex holster with velcro backing might work better both because retention is shaped around the trigger guard and you can get it very tight (assuming the holster has adjustment screw) and the vertical velcro will give you greater contact area with your bag's velcro.

Full kydex with velcro. Regardless I haven’t heard of anyone who runs not complaining of bounce. Best carry so far I have seen is an elastic waist/chest band. My son runs with his this way.
