Home Made Laundry Detergent

Cooked up my first batch tonight. I know I lead a sad life when I'm looking forward to the first wash load with the new soap tomorrow morning,,:D

Amazing that this is still going. The original thread on "the site that shant be named" was started years ago.

We've been using this for quite some time. My wife loves it, even enjoys making it because it makes the house smell so good.

We made some up a while back. My wife claimed it didn't work as well, but I'm not convinced and think it did just fine.

Necro-bump.

I'm brewing a batch here and figured some newbies might wanna give it a try.

Good thread.....one cant have too many skilzes

maybe it's just me but I figure if the real SHTF, the last thing I'm worrying about is whether or not my 160 load bottle of Tide is running low. I'll probably be too worried about the water that clothes washing requires.

Have solar and batteries to run well pump, use this soap and have been for years. Even have wash tubs and a wringer for SHTF laundry setup. The grandkids love doing laundry "the old times way"

Did you buy the well setup or assemble yourself Steve? I have been looking at doing something with my well involving a "solar" pump, collectors and battery backup....

Assembled myself. Career in electronics, figured out max current on pump startup, added 25% for system loss. Bought a pure sine wave inverter, figured on how much pump run time for "normal" use,and bought a couple deep cycle batteries and solar panels to keep them charged.

I don't care about that. I do save a lot of money on detergent and I like it better than store bought. Working on the same $10 in stuff I bought a couple years ago... We wash a lot of clothes between my work clothes, dress clothes and outdoor stuff to the ol' ladies work out gear, office attire and other plus household stuff. We were spending $20+ a month. I haven't spent that in the last few years now...

revived thread thoughts....in terms of saving money, here's what works for us:
1. use less. with store bought we get by with less than a 1/4 cup . we found we don't need lots of suds.
2. when the bottle is empty, add water, shake it up. good for one load. Windex, Fantastic, shampoo, etc.
3. making our own. yes, it works. we've found that BOGO/coupons/whatever is easier and cheaper.
