Detectives told Q13 News the homeowner did his best to fend off the burglary suspect in his kitchen using a piece of wood. When that did not stop the suspect, the man grabbed a weapon and fired a single shot, hitting the intruder in the chest.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital with a single gunshot wound and is expected to survive.

The homeowner will not be facing any charges since he was within his right to protect his home.

“The sheriff's office said it is reminding the public to not approach anyone who breaks into their home, and instead to call 911.”

Let them do what they want and hope they leave you alone while you wait 20 minutes for a response. Sure thing, Sheriff’s office.

My parents had a strange car sitting outside their driveway a few weeks back, closer to their neighbors. It had been there since very early in the morning. Took the cops over 12 minutes to get there.
They’re only 4 minutes from the police station lol

It's like they had to reinforce just how useless they are if the intruder is already at your doorstep.

I wonder if there is some sort of handbook or training on how to give a statement to the media to ensure they always say something to the effect of "stay helpless"? Or since it's an uncited source, maybe no one actually said it and the standard media boilerplate for reporting a case where someone fights back has that stuck on there?

Or it's just too early for me to be up and thinking.

Should have shot him first, then beat him with the stick. ;)

"You can see, Officer, where I used this stick to try and stop him. But he fought the stick off and I had to shoot him."
