Anybody have experience with this gun?

Only through glass. Saw some Honor stuff at ProShots.
Did you happen to notice whether it was part of their rental fleet?

It certainly doesn't seem 100% objective, particularly in light of Hickok45's review. I'm still curious about it.

I'm still waiting for the explanation of what could make a Shield clone better than a Shield.

Adding a snag-lip on the front so you can punch bullets into your target like a Grammaton Cleric from Equilibrium?

Materials, workmanship and quality control. Three essentials that S&W is currently hit or miss on. Given the choice of the two, I'd go with the Honor Guard in a skinny minute!

@Starkherz199 was speaking quite highly of a gun by them, not positive if same model.
He showed me his Honor Defense and it is modular, but not sure if exactly the same as the one the OP references.

I don't think I'm speaking out of turn when I say Mike is one of the best shooters I know, and can outshoot other shooters while shooting a Shield when they are shooting full sized guns, and will very often shoot the Honor Defense in matches.

I think the only thing he doesn't like about it if I recall is the longer trigger reset.

From the Hickok45 video, it is modular so must be the same gun.

The problem Hickok was having was that the front sight on the Honor Defense is a big orange dot, and it obscures the target from distances 20 yards and beyond. I could tell that was his problem, because I had the same problem with mine. I put a Dawson front fiber on mine and it is deadly accurate with Speer Gold dots and Federal HST from 20-25 yards. Good thing the Honor Guard takes Glock 43 sights...easy to change out.

So you'd recommend the gun?

Its a Shield clone in the outline and profile only. It is modular like the Sig p320, and the trigger has a different feel. I think of it as a Shield on steroids. Don't get me wrong...I love my Shield, but the Honor Guard has everything I like save one thing.
For starters, the slide is beefier on the HG than the Shield. This added weight makes it shoot flatter. It also has a steel recoil spring assembly. The grip texture is the best factory grip texture on the market. The gun does not slip in your hands even if its wet with sweat. This may be one of my favorite aspects. I've shot the Shield in more than a few summer IDPA matches, and it slips all around in your hand. Adding talon grip tape helps, but it is nowhere near effective as the HG texture.
Another thing I like is the recessed slide stop. Some may not like this, but occasionally when I would bear down on the Shield, I would either pin the slide stop up, or down causing problems. The way the HG is recessed means you have to overhand slingshot it to reload, but that is the most failure free way that works for me anyway.
I like the HG flat-faced, but rounded trigger better than the hingy crap S&W puts on the M&P's. It has about a 7lb pull, which is what I like with small guns that I carry. The pull is crisp and smooth. The only thing I'm not found of is the reset is just a tad too long. It's not as long as a Karh, or a revolver, but it is just long enough for me to notice.
It also has forward cocking serations. It also takes G43 sights if you want to change them ou.
So...it is similar to a Shield, but not a Shield clone. It's more of a Shield/Sigp320 combination.

So you'd recommend the gun?
Keep in mind that Honor Defense has the same company make their magazines as does S&W...so the HG magazines and the Shield are identical except the cutout. They are not interchangable. However, they both use the same mag baseplates, and mag springs. Any aftermarket baseplate extensions (like Hyve Technologies or Taran Tactical) will work with the Honor Guard.
Also because its modular, you can buy different grip modules at Honor Defense's website. They have a bunch of different colors.
And because its modular, you can buy the long slide conversion kit. Honor Defense makes 2 sizes of this gun, the sub-compact (roughly same length as a Shield), and the Compact. The Compact is basically the sub-compact with an extra inch, and a rail on the frame. The long slide is heavier, but it is fun to shoot.
I shot the Honor Guard this past Saturday. The video is below...you can get a good look at the gun in action in the first person shots. I really like this gun. The extra weight on the slide makes for a more controllable gun than the Shield.

I agree with that. The Honor Guard has a better extractor. When my Shield passed the 4000 round mark I started getting failures to extract with less than +P 9mm ammo. It went away when I changed the recoil spring, but that stuck in my mind and bothered me.

In fairness, let me mention that the extra beef, and steel recoil spring make The Honor Guard 22 oz's as opposed to the Shield being 19 oz's. If weight is an issue, the Shield will win that battle.
With the extra beef, the HG is rated to fire 9mm+P unlimited. You can tell when you hold both guns that the HG is just sturdier. My wife carries a Shield, and that extra 3 oz's for her is a no-go. She won't have it.

If anybody wants to shoot mine, I'll bring it to the next H2O IDPA match the 2nd week of December. I myself and very reticent to buy a gun I haven't at least shot once.

I was wondering what kind of holster are you using for your Honor Defense. I used a Safariland GLS for a bug match just trying to find other options. Mine is the compact.

MTR CUSTOM Leather OWB pancake or Eclipse IWB Kydex. Any leather or hybrid for the Shield will work. Plain Kydex Shield nor so much as the HG slide is a tad thicker than the Shield

Thank you for the review.
I have always thought they looked well made but didn't know enough about them to "pull the trigger".
Thank you!
