I was reloading some 308 tonight and ran across may 15 to 20 cases that a large rifle primer would not fit in it. This waas Hornady brass and I could not see any crimps.

Does Hornady make any small primer brass.

I have had the same experience with Hornady brass in 308. I hand prime and noticed immediately that the primer pockets were very tight, but did manage to seat primers in most of the dozen or so cases that I had. There were a couple that I gave up on.

Were these from some of their Light Magnum rounds? A friend gave me some of those he could not get to work in his BLR. I have not yet tried them in a bolt action. The primers on all of them were smashed as flat as any primers I have ever seen on a commercial round except for commercial 41 Magnums. I am wondering if you punched the back of the primer out while leaving the walls of the primer still in the pocket. That happened to me with all the cases of one headstamp. If that is not the case, you might have to groom the primer pockets a bit with a swager or a reaming tool that is normally used to remove military crimps. I have had to groom the pockets on Winchester, S&B, and a few other headstamps in 45 Auto in order to get the primers in successfully.

I don't like hornady brass, the primer pockets get loose fast. I get less then 5 reloading out of new brass.

I have had serious issues with .223 MAtch and .3o8 Match Hornady reloading after shooting the factory load. I have to chamfer all the primer pockets for the right primer to fit.

I don't know if it was something they went to for a while when I was stocking up but it makes it a pain to prime.

Now, new Hornady brass is easy peasy...

lkarus1, I tried using my RCBS prep center to open up the primer pocker but the cases kept getting stuck. The tried the RCBS pocket swage kit and it did not work. A friend has my CH swage die set that I was going to try next. Truth be told, I most likely am going to through them in the recycle bin.

I have the bench mounted RCBS swager, it will swage anything including turning SPP into LPP lol. Ask me how I know
