Hot suppressor handling

Rocksett is high temp not high strength. If us larpers need something stronger maybe a Nordlock washer lol
never used those, but i've seen some here and there
how much more likely are you to shear off a head than succeed when trying to take a bolt out that has been put in with these things?

Way too much over thinking going on. Rocksett works. No need for crazy ass washers or welds. Even appropriate torque is sufficient enough. It’s not rocket science.

Plain old $9 welding gloves. Dont over complicate things
I am not a welder so be patient with me here… where do you get $9 welding gloves? What brand/material are they?

Searching online it seems like $30 is about the going rate, and I’d be nervous about buying discount junk and then grabbing a hot can.

A couple of my cans have a nice blue hue to them from melting the bottom of dump barrels.
Assuming shipping goes as planned, I’ll be filling out my first form 4 next week. Have you used a can for a run and gun? If so, I have questions! Anything to be aware of there beyond “don’t hit your calf with it while you run”? Do you use a cover? Bring special gloves to make sure it’s still seated?

Yes, I run a can on every run n gun. I’d say >25% of us do.

1. Use a cover so you don’t burn your calf/back/arm…as you sling the rifle around.

2. I mark the can/mount so I can quickly see if it’s come loose, but don’t bring any gloves. I’ve practiced using my sling as an expedient “wrap” to tighten.

A couple other options from HF. If you’re an ITC member, even better. You’d get 30% off the 3pr/$15.99 deal. Stock up.

Haven’t tried it yet but the Burnproof covers have what looks to be a header wrap material finger lock that goes over the can first and fireproof fabric on top of that. Theyre a little pricey though

I always just let them cool on the gun. Lock the bolt open and the heat from the can will cause a wicking effect and draw cool air from the bolt down the barrel and into the can until the can reaches ambient air temps. I've never had to dump and run with a suppressor so haven't had the need for it. I would guess you need similar material to actually put the suppressor back in a bag to carry it out, but I'd be hesitant to put a 500 degree suppressor down in a bag with ammo, mags, other guns, basically anything that could be harmed by the heat.

^this.

I keep a silicon oven mitt in my trunk but never really use it because there’s nowhere to put a hot ass suppressor. My preference is to leave it attached for 10 min with the bolt open and it cools down fairly quickly especially if the barrel can help draw the heat away from the can.

Don’t have a cover yet. Need to be able to more quickly remove a suppressor, instead of sitting there waiting for it to cool off.

What do folks like to use to remove a hot suppressor? Oven mit? Welding gloves?
I still have not see the best option yet

BUY ANOTHER ONE. 😂😂😂😂

Also, a cover may be a good idea so you can put it on after shooting and transport it without melting your rifle bag. But shooting with it on is just going to make it get and stay hotter. I think they probably hurt more than help as far as shooting with a cover on the suppressor.
This is what I use as well and it works great.

Welding gloves work for me, I just keep them in the range bag. One thing to mention about the covers, is that it will make mirage worse than it already is with a can. It may matter to some longer range shooters and to others it may not matter. The cover insulates the heat... so the can doesn't cool down quite as fast.

What kind of cover do you use?

Armageddon Gear
Thanks. Do you have the “extreme high temp” version or is the normal one enough to get through a match? I’m not looking to mag dump but don’t want to melt a cover just because the stage called for hosing some stuff down!

I don't recall. But I doubt any match stage would have a high enough round count to matter.
