Hmmm so lately I've seen a couple or more people make statements about preferring not to have a laser. Aside from additional cost, what are the drawbacks that makes you prefer not to have one? Personally I run one on my HD pistol, threat focus, etc I have my thoughts but am curious what are your opinions?

I have a Viridian laser/light on my bedroom gun. Sometimes, when I'm making PowerPoint presentations on a large screen and forget my pointer, I'm able to draw my gun and use it instead. Always seems to keep them attentive. :D

I want a laser on my pocket gun. Considering I only have 6 rounds of maybe not the most effective ammo shot placement is paramount. Not worried about the beam being tracked back to me as the threat I engage will probably be looking at me anyway.

That is freaking hilarious!

Laser on pistol....What's next exploding pens, purple knockout gas, phone in shoe and an ejector seat in your Hyundai? Where does it all end man!

Seriously, last week, a University of Belgrade Professor came over to me asking whether I had a laser pointer he could borrow. The presentation involved government types including a vice minister.

I'd have LOVED to pull out my M&P, drop the mag, clear the chamber, flick on the laser and hand it to him with a big :D.

How do you say "Who's your daddy" in Serbian? :)

I think when you do all of that, you just said it in ANY language lol

As a teacher I dont think I could do the same ;)

Sorry @Love2shoot for highjacking your thread. My "brilliant" input will surely skew the results in favor of frikin yes. This is a use case most clearly have never before considered.

Seriously, you have ruined yet another thread.....

Im actually surprised the votes are almost even. I am curious though for the argument AGAINST a laser. Other than weight or size maybe.

Battery life? My green Viridian really sucks the juice.

In all seriousness, I think they have their place in certain applications. With that being said, most people don’t need them. I think a good flashlight whether it be weapon mounted or traditional is way more useful than a laser for most of the populace. Especially for me since my family’s dogs love to hem up possums and coons at night. Smh

Nope, if there's more than one bad guy I don't want to telegraph my position.
Yet popping varmints at night with a DBAL2 w/ IR laser is fun :D

I do not have a laser but I can imagine a use case where I am in an abnormal position and not able to use the sights.

For fun on like a plinker .22 rifle maybe

I'm convinced that physiologically one is much faster on rapid draw/line sights on target/fire than draw/ seek beam/place beam in proper spot/ fire

In cqb handgun use I think it's not only a gimmick but a detriment as well

Nope. In a serious threat situation a lot of folks never even look at the sights. I'd guess same goes for laser. I try to take some shots unsighted at close distances. That's a very likely scenario if I ever have to use my gun.

Holsters are another issue. The bigger name lasers, you can usually find something but might not find what you want. The smaller brand lasers, probably not finding a holster. I tell folks to find the holster for their gun/laser combo before they even buy it. Most folks do it the other way and get aggravated looking for a holster.

At distance I bet that laser bouncing around would drive some folks so nuts they may have a hard time pulling the trigger. Everybody moves, or floats the sights, some. The laser just makes it much more noticeable. And it's worse as the distance increases.

Seriously.....

"Ко је твој тата" courtesy Google Translate. Sounds like Klingon.

Laser just gives your position away. A very bright light is better as it blindsthe person on the other end.

As far as lasers go, I have yet to be really sold on them. Ive watched people at the range with them, and that little dot is bouncing everywhere. It seems some people get them and figure that they can ignore the basics of marksmanship because they will be like the Predator and immediately hone in on anything they need to. I always kinda felt that if I had to draw and fire that my target would probably either be too close for a laser to matter, or far enough away and moving fast enough that a laser would be too hard to track or at least I would waste time trying to find the laser when I could be concentrating on sight alignment. That...and its just one more thing to futz around with when I am going to be in a situation where simple will be better.

I am pro laser. My eyesight is not what it used to be. I can see things far away but not close. In a situation where I do not have my glasses on my face, a laser would give me something to see at distance when the sites are blurry. They are also really nice for dry fire practice as they show you how far off target you’re drifting during your trigger pull.

I need to find a good , reasonable IR laser, bad. I have NV on my EOTech, but its hard to aim with the PVS 14 helmet mounted….

Exactly why I have a laser, light combo on my nightstand pistol.

Not a fan. People are 3D, People Move, People Wear clothes which have different colors and folds or wrinkles all over. It's easier to place sights in target than try to find the beam once you get away from shooting at staionary targets. I could see their use in some specific situations but overall I'd prefer iron sights and a flashlight

I have a little light on my 43 that also has a laser. Doesn't really bother me and I haven't been able to see a downside as it only activates when the light is on.

I have them on several pistols...and they've been installed since I bought the pistols 10+ years ago. I often put a little piece of electrical tape over them if I'm just out shooting. They're all the Crimson Trace grips with the pressure switch on the backstrap, with no on/off switch.

I find them very entertaining and educational to let somebody else use one and see how much it bounces around. Novice or experienced shooter...doesn't really matter. Most people have no idea how unsteady they actually are holding a handgun on a target.

I expect that in a difficult situation I’ll be looking at the threat rather than the sights, and I sure don’t want to be looking for the bouncing ball. Have actually thought about just removing the sights and seeing what happens when shooting at 7-10’
