For those of us that actually needed to use them, how did they work?? What were you short on?? What did you wish you had that you didn't??

I was one of the lucky one's that wasn't hit bad, never lost power (so far) and didn't dip into reserve/preps at all!! Lost the top (15') of a dead pine tree in the woods, no damage and was actually on the back screen porch when it broke, strange sound.......

How did you fare???

We did pretty well. Lost power but it was just an inconvenience. Still had water, had plenty to eat, made it without any problems. Our nearby neighbor had power and the wife would go over and use their Keurig for her coffee addiction. One large limb in the yard and a lot of yard debris, no damage.

I had a small portable charger that I had charged and ready. We used it to keep cell phones charged. I had never used it before and I was impressed with it. I would recommend getting one or two to have around.

Small roof leak in the powder room but I am not even attempting to go up on the roof. Bleach will clean the plywood and the joist after I have roofers over to do what they do.
This is nothing compared to the destruction of life and property that others have incurred.

Like you I didn't lose power. Flickered and went off a few times for maybe 20 minutes at most.

I wish I had a garage...

That's my neighbor's trampoline. Bounced off my other truck and landed on this one. Broken windshield and a couple dents and scratches.

Who the hell doesn’t secure a damn trampoline?

All's good to go here.
I was lucky, hope no one was hurt thru all of your families.

I would have cut that thing to ribbons before I returned it. Morons.

The Backpacker Pantry Mocha Mousse Pie was not a hit with my wife and kids. And one of my water bricks has a leak in a seam. No big issues. Luckily we haven't had an actual emergency here to test more.

You may not have a garage but you do have yourself a nice trampoline now. Lol

I ran out of beer. Had to go out and get more.

I'm down to my last four. We're under curfew, so I can't go out for more, and if I could, I would have to drive to NC because of this danged blue law.

If they want it back they can pay for my windshield. Right now it's under the back tires of my truck.

In my dumber days, I didn't secure our trampoline before a storm. I knew it was heavy and didn't think the storm had enough gas to move it. I found out how little wind it took to toss one through the neighborhood.

It jumped my fence and damaged my neighbor's car. I called my insurance agent and he said I wasn't liable for the damage because it was an act of god, or something like that.

I talked with the neighbor lady and we settled on me paying half her deductible to repair her car. I sold the trampoline because A) the kids really weren't using it and B) well, I just told you that story.

I think that the first Streamlight that I bought was the ProTac 2AA. Afterward, I got into the lights that use the CR123 batteries. Since we were without power, I needed a night light. You'd be surprised how much light the clock on the stove puts out, or the clock on the nightstand, or anything that emits an ambient light. When there's no light, it gets pretty dark.

I took the ProTac, with the batteries that were already in it, put it on the low setting, and stood it on it's end. It ran from 7PM to 7AM both Friday and Saturday nights. It gave off plenty of light for us to see to get around. I have a renewed respect for the little light.

I forgot to buy some coffee. Forgot Thursday that I was out when I was in the store. Realized it too late Friday morning after I filled the pot with water. I’m struggling bad. Settling for tea. I’d pay an outrageous 20 bucks for a good cup right now. Other than bread, I had no reason to go to the grocery store. Been without power since the early am Friday. Haven’t even touched the long term, MRE, and canned stuff much, still been eating out the freezer / fridge due to the generator. Per good policy, eat the stuff that you can’t preserve long term first.

Making tea right now as I type on the propane burner in the garage.

Each time I need to use the generator, I keep kicking myself for not having enough good drop cords.
Other than that, I only have to buy gas and sometimes propane to be ready for a storm.
New led lanterns purchased after Matthew are working good so far.

plenty wet here with many bits of pine branches. sadly I did not prep for the fall off the roof ...

Completely free of issues here in Durham. What kills me is the number of people looking for someone to donate their supplies to. Hurricane season isn’t over folks. I guess they love the rush of making those store runs.

We didn't really get anything except rain. We're a little over 5" now and it's still going. Wind was mild and we never lost power.

We lost power for about 10 seconds yesterday and have one limb in the yard. Have two trees leaning in the back but if they go they shouldn’t damage anything. Woke this morning to a leaking roof in the bathroom and stepsons bedroom, rain hasn’t stopped to get anything over it and I’m not about to go up with it still raining. Other than that everything has been fine here.

We have some limbs down, but no real emergency. Wife decided to eat the M&Ms anyway as part of the drill.

No issues at all here. Biggest worry was the possibility of downed trees, but nothing on that front. Just a bunch of water and a bit of wind. Not in a flood zone so we're good. Power stayed on but I had the generator ready and plenty of go-juice.

Lotsa yard debris..LOTSA! Little 5500 Generac kept all fridges and freezer going for the 20 hours we were out. Our downfall is being electrically ignorant and not knowing how to hook up to more things without cords. Looking to have a whole house 20K in place before too long. I want one installed so that when the power goes, we never miss a beat. That is second on the "to do list". First is to get this place cleaned up. Thanks to all who checked on us!!!

Let me know when the current generator is up for sale. I thinks it's time.

Just rain here and a few gusts of wind, all is well
I havent went out back yet, curious if any of the siding was messed up, I'll check tomorrow

A bigger generator. Damn gonna FIX that! Metal roofs on all structures worked as designed. All standing shooting sheds came through perfect. My main concern was a board fence we put up when we lost a giant live oak. It came through just fine. We had some pretty impressive winds outta the NW. Doesn't look as if it's ever gonna stop raining. If any of our folks are even mildly thinking about a roof, please go with a metal roof. You will never be sorry.
I know this sounds like common sense but please, don't build a house in a hole or river bank and then whine when you get flooded. What did you expect to happen? Geezer and I have a shooting pal that built a house and a nice shop in a HOLE. His yard is a foot deep now and before this is over he will lose everything for the 3rd time since 2015.

we got a total of 10" 7 1/2" on Sunday alone of rain

a lot of yard debris

lost power Saturday night for about 20 minutes other than we are blessed.

Didn’t need to use anything, but it did occur to me that I need to come up with some sort of rain cover for the generator should I need to use it.
