Picked up this "PEQ-15" this morning at a price in line with airsoft/counterfeit units. Dude I got it from swears it's the real deal from L3.

From the limited testing I did the visible laser definitely works and the led light works. Unknown on an IR laser, I'll need to mess with that tonight. The IR illuminator seems to work, but I'll test that tonight as well.

what do you think...fake or legit?

If that's legit, L3 are sending out some rough looking product these days.

I have absolutely no experience with that device but plenty of experience working and living in China. That gadget is no more authentic than I'm authentically Harrison Ford. Look at the wording of the labels and the lack of spacing between the words.

LED Light? You mean like a built in tac-light?

Issued PEQ15 had a visible laser, IR laser, and IR illuminator...but I never saw one with any kind of LED light.

Also, is that metal? Aluminum?
Only ones I have used were housed in a high-density polymer and were black, but there are tan (sand) ones issued also...never saw a green one or a metal one. Even the earlier PEQ (2-4) versions were polymer.

Dont know if it's real. Looks like it's been rattle canned a bit? 2nd photo at the top of the danger sticker looks a little green.

Yeah, it's fake. I didn't get hurt too bad on it so lesson learned and I'll move on.

The visible laser and white light will find a use somewhere.

I'm not even familiar with the real thing, and I'm certain that the one pictured is a fake. But as long as it works, stick it on a .22 or a 'just for fun' gun and enjoy it.

So...just on the off chance the thing was real, and out of an abundance boredom, I sent a bunch of pics and the Serial Number to the kind folks at EoTech asking, "Hey, is thing fake?" Interesting response...

That's just nuts.

What makes it restricted?
A label so badly formatted that it is nearly impossible for normal people to read/understand would make it ideal for government types.

Send us a postcard from Guantanamo and don't eat the sammiches.

I'm not worried. I have all of the contact info from the.....gentleman....that sold it to me. I self-reported the potential issue. I've said I'd do whatever "is right". I don't think even our DOJ would be able to make a case against me.

Tim, I have used Peq15s in the army per my earlier post...none of them had a white light and they were all polymer encased.
There is a newer peq16 that does add a white weapon light to the housing, but it doesn't look anything like the peq15.

J/K man - I think the guy is trolling you. I bet he gets lots of these emails and he likes messing with airsoft commandos.

Restricted US Government item = they worked hard to charge the govt triple the price for a substandard item.

Edit- is it marked "US Govt Property" in any way?

That would piss me off. To the point I'd not buy L3/Eotech gear at all. And I'm a brand loyal, willing to pay full rate, kind of guy.

Please turn on your porch light. The ATF is driving down your street trying to identify your house.

:D

Hmmm... you should probably check in here every 15 minutes or so for your own protection. Any black helicopters hovering above your domicile? You might also check underneath your vehicle before you start it for any hastily wired non-factory items. Remember... cut the red wire... or was it blue? OH! And remember to grab the cat...

Why not ask the guy to take it back?

yeah....I did. You can imagine how that conversation went. My options in that regard are small claims court or beating the snot out of the guy. Both of which are more expensive than what I've got into it.

The label says it's a class 3b laser. If it's truly an ATPIAL then the "high" setting on the laser is not safe for your eyes. These are restricted to military and law enforcement only, and not available to civilians. The ATPIAL-C is available to civilians and has reduced output, and the infrared illuminator cannot be focused.

However, if it has a white light, then it has to be a fake. An authentic ATPIAL (or ATPIAL-C) only has visible and infrared lasers, and an infrared illuminator.

That was the old Orlando city hall. The movie shot on location when they blew it up/down. I have a piece of the building since dad used to work there. Used to bring it to school and let kids touch it for a dollar!

Interesting turn of events....got a call from a DOD/DCIS agent this morning. Seems that L3 forwarded my pics and this is (allegedly) indeed a stolen unit. Friendly conversation, assurances that I'm "in the clear", etc. I've forwarded the seller's info to them. I'll be curious to see what happens.

First thing I guess will happen is that I'll move it from the junk box to the safe!

Good idea. That way, when they show up with a search warrant specifying the one item, you'll have to give them access to the entire safe. :D

Really, I thought for sure that you’d already thrown it away.

Honestly. That's not a bad point. I have a small desktop "safe" that isn't being used. I'll stick it in there and keep it next to the door.

It's a decent white light, so I figured I'd hold onto it and see if it came in handy down the road. Since I was convinced it's a fake (still fairly sure it is), I never bothered playing much with the IR stuff.
