Howa 1500 6.5 Grendel

I had a howa 1500 with a heavy barrel in .223 some years ago. Very accurate rifle

I actually really like the factory HACT trigger. The only gripe I have about mine is that the Houge stock on my .308 tends to flex and put pressure on the barrel when using a bipod. Planning on swapping it for a B&C at some point.
 
Wasn’t all that amazed with how it shot today. It shot the hornady custom really well. The black was 1-1.5” and the federal Berger was about an inch. The factory barrel is pretty thin, looks even worse in this chassis, so I may throw a heavier barrel on it and run 22-24” instead of 20

Shoulda bought a CZ. :p

My varmint is like cheating when I do my thing. I was getting <1” groups with freaking $9 Russian Wolf ammo. Better with Hornady. I can only imagine what a skilled reloader could do.

I like the cz but this howa has impressed me with the quality of it, the bolt.. the trigger. It’s nice. Factory barrel may shoot my loads better but I want a heavier profile. I had a flyer, and 4 shots in under half inch with the hornady custom.

I just want to push these 123’s at 2700+FPS

I have heard they are decent rifles. On the 6.5 grendel forums there are lots of fans. But my CZ with the set trigger is about a 1 lb pull with zero creep. Crazy nice for bench shooting. Without setting it it’s about a decent 3lbs.

I’m going to do a trigger job on this. Seems to get it around that same weight. The howa also has zero creep. But it’s around 2# now. Too heavy for me. My other rifles are at 10 oz

I’ve never had a rifle shoot it good out of the 6 Grendel’s I’ve had. A friend has a 20” PSA grendel and it’ll group the black at half inch.

I just ordered my barrel blank for this thing. It’s going to look goooooood
 
I've picked up a few Howa's from Brownells. They run some good sales once in awhile and some calibers are offered with heavier barrels.

Her's mine in 6mm CM with the ORYX stock. I added a Basix trigger set at 14 oz in lieu of the HACT and topped it with a Sig Tango 4. I really like the Howa's for the money. I would say they are on par with your older 700 Rem's.

I cant seem to find any of their 300 win mag actions... I see them at their site, but everywhere else says discontinued. Id love to pick one up and make it into a 300PRC

Im going to do the trigger job on my HACT today, most get it around a #. Its not terrible now but very heavy for my liking.

What kind of barrel are you putting on there?

I was looking at the heavy barrel 20” action that brownells has on sale last night, kinda itching for it.
I’ve already got the CZ 527 in Grendel but I kinda want a gun I can beat around, the CZ is too pretty to scratch up

I was going to put a 26” Wilson barrel on it but got aggravated with not being able to find mags for it so I traded it for a rpr
 
Dang, I haven’t tried to look for mags for it yet. Looks like they are nowhere to be found. Glad I didn’t pull the trigger yet

I’ve got 5 mags for my CZ, but that’s between two guns. The other CZ is in 7.62x39

Yeah if bummed me out. I called Legacy and they didn’t know what another shipment would be here.
My friend that has it now is turning it into. 6ppc
