Anyone have experience with these failing with the auto-brightness? I was in the middle of some shooting, was fine originally and then went to draw and there was no dot. The battery is essentially fresh, maybe a few months old.

Fortunately I have backup irons and was able to finish the drills but when I got off the range I held the + symbol and it turned back up. IDK if the auto brightness failed or it somehow turned off on me. I don't see how I could have accidently hit those two small buttons at the same time.

I also checked my ALS holster and it's not making contact with the buttons at all.

I was outside so it's possible it was on and just not bright enough to see, which leads me to believe the auto brightness failed me. Seems to be working fine now.

I always found it pretty useless to begin with, honestly. Found it never "right" unless whatever you were aiming at was under identical lighting conditions to where you were standing. At home, at the range, always seemed to be the wrong amount of illumination.

I can see that. So you just adjusted it as necessary? Do you lock the setting afterwords?

Yep. Adjusted it to where it was bright enough for me to see it consistently and then just left it alone. I didn't lock the setting in, because I've never accidentally changed it and could still adjust on the fly if need be. With both eyes open and on target it's never been an issue for me.

I'll try that. I honestly don't know if it was an auto brightness failure or if I accidently hit both the buttons as I reholstered. I've dry fired a lot without issue so IDK what to think, but if it was off, hitting either buttons would turn it on...which is what I did and it showed up.

Either way it makes me a little uncomfortable that it failed.

Perhaps an optic without an off feature is actually the way to go.

I keep my 407s and 507s on max brightness and just leave them there personally.

I prob would too if I didn't have an astigmatism. The brighter it is, the worse the reticle looks. Not an issue with glasses but there may be situations where I don't have them.
Dang that's unfortunate, I have an astigmatism as well and have to keep my rmr 1 step down, but I haven't found my holosuns to get bright enough to be an issue.

Astigmatisms are wild though, definitely seems like no 2 are alike!

What I really need to do is setup at a bench with a rest and try using the dot without my specs to see how bad it affects accuracy something like a man-size silhouette.

I keep spare glasses in all of my rifle bags that have dots on them, and then I also have a pair on the nightstand.

My astigmatism also makes most red dots miserable, this is why my carry gun has the green ACSS vulcan reticle with the chevron. Worked much better for me than the red dot. My eyes also do better with the 8 MOA ring on the Holosun that is being sold on clearance right now by PSA. All of them do best when I shoot with both eyes open. My brightness setting is pretty much middle of the adjustment band more or less.

I also have never used it for anything

I'm surprised you say the ACSS reticle is better for you. I'd think that would look all jacked with an astigmatism.

I would really like to try a 1MOA RMR at some point before I decide what to replace this 507c with. I have been pretty set between the 509T-X2 green or the ACRO P-2, leaning towards the 509 as I'm thinking the price of the ACRO wouldn't be justified after seeing the 509T standup to a lot of abuse.
