Hi all,

I'm buying a hunting license for the first time. I haven't taken a hunting safety course yet and was planning to get a Hunting Heritage Apprentice Permit so I can hunt with a fully licensed relative. I'm on the online order form and have a few questions:

1) For the Federal Duck E-Stamp it's asking me for a quantity. What does this mean? Number of stamps? Number of ducks? Is it one stamp per duck??
2) I don't see a way to add the Hunting Heritage Apprentice Permit to the actual hunting license I'm buying. Anyone know how to go about that?

Thanks in advance to any experienced hunters who can help me out!

For the duck stamp it’s asking how many duck stamps you want to purchase. One duck stamp is good for the entire season. You also use to be able to buy your duck stamp at your local post office. Not sure if that has changed. It’s been years since we have gone duck hunting.

As far as the permit question once you get ready to check out it will ask you for your hunter ed number. Since you do not have one you should be able to select something at that point stating you do not have one.

Hope this help.

Can’t help much, but I can affirm that the post office should have the stamps. But some may be out, so not sure if calling first would be a good idea.

Also figure I’d throw this out there. Not sure if you are wanting to take the hunter Ed course or not. With Covid they are offering it 100% online. You pay the fee and have so long to take it. I took the class back in 06. Husband took it online a couple months ago.

Thanks, sorry for the continued confusion but why would I need more than 1 duck stamp? The license I'm purchasing is just for 1 person (me).

Thanks, yeah I'm signed up for an in-person hunter ed course in January.

You have the option to buy more than one. Say for example you wanted to get one for yourself and say your buddy already had a hunting license and wanted to go duck hunting with you. You can buy more than one to buy one for him as well.

Thanks for all your help, everybody. Got my big game license and federal duck e-stamp purchased and printed. Going for my first hunt this Saturday. Wish me luck! Hopefully I'll have some good news to report on Saturday night.

Good luck! Nothing like being in the swamps with the sun coming up. Some of the most peaceful times imo. You’ll have to let us know how you did.

You should get your actual stamp in the mail in a few weeks. Until then your e-stamp serves as proof of purchase. Many collect duck stamps and purchase multiple stamps. If I had started collecting them when I first started duck hunting they would be worth a little bit. To be valid the stamp has to be signed by you. I sign and glue mine to the back of my regular license.
