Hurricane Florence predictions

Don't forget to run down to the basement and grab a few a few quarter sticks of candles.

Yep. Just don't hold on to 'em after ya light 'em. Lol.

Good point. I am looking at pics of new ones and they have that 120/240volt twist lock connector that I have no idea what it is for. I always plugged in the 120v pigtail for the sump pump and watched my basement flood anyway.
The twist lock design prevents the plug from being disconnected if tugged.
The female end of the cord will mate up to the recessed male on a generator feed box outside the building,
that will then feed into the main panel to feed the building safely and per electrical codes.

I have my truck, 1gal of water (more tomorrow), enough gas to get back home (plus), credit card, some cash, no food but I could loose 10lbs ;).

I really don't see a problem. It's adventure! Now if my wife was with me it would not be...:(

Land fall at 8am Thursday but I'm leaving Raleigh at 2pm'ish.

I'm a little spooked. If this thing barrels on inland like Hugo did, and hits the Triad head on, I'm very concerned about these:

I actually think I had a large cable that connected to it that split into three female ends. I bought it 12 years ago because I had a basement that would flood without power to the sump pump. Otherwise i never ran it.

In addition to all the goings on of the government and panickin’ public, everyone might get a dry run in on their preps.

Some will be eatin’ Bread and drinkin’ spoiled milk.

Some will be eating like kings.

Which one will you be?

I’ll be finishing off the dozen cans of spaghettiOs from 2014.

Climate is fascinating, it all starts actually over the Sahara with heat and high pressure systems which pick up warm water as a move into the Atlantic. And of course El Nino exacerbates it. I read somewhere ones were a 5 millibar drop in pressure in Egypt has the potential to spawn a category 5 hurricane that hits Texas.

ElNino is a Pacific Ocean phenomena.

I’m about 95% sure on that.

All about heating up water over the equator, the Coriolis Effect, and global wind belts.

Good luck, sir. Hugo shoved many of our tall old pines down like it was nothing. The ground will be saturated, and the winds will be heavy and steady.

Thank you sir.

I won't mind if they go down, as long as they miss the house. Many of those trees in the pics are Poplars, Gum, and Pine. We have lived here for 13 years and have never experienced a hurricane direct hit. We built the house and moved in June 2005.

We experienced a few hurricanes prior to living in this house but never had to worry about big trees falling on the house.

You know, I've never seen a poplar or gum snap or come down. Probably something similar to how Ginsberg and Pelosi won't die; the world isn't that gracious.

If anybody some how has a living Bradford pear, go kiss that smelly sumofabitch goodbye.

schools around the triad are already planning for the fact that the might be closed thursday and/or friday.

I kid you not, we found a can of sardines yesterday date stamped 2005! After the WTF and the "how the h**l have we been lugging this around through two moves" moments, speculation turned to: (i) should we open it; (ii) what might crawl out if we did; and (iii) would a JRA M14 be able to handle the situation if something did crawl out.

We went with passing on the problem to Waste Industries.

I'd like to be but I'm thinking I need to have a level head in case anything goes sideways.

I am not trying to make like of the issues the hurricane will cause but I see no reason to worry myself to death over them. IMHO the best thing you can do is hunker down in a safe spot until everything blows over. The days following the storm are when you need to stay sober and keep a level head.
