I've been there one time a few years ago to buy a 1911 that I couldn't find anywhere else. Does anyone know if they do fair trades? I saw something that caught my eye but I would have to trade to get it. They are about 2 hours away so don't want to waste my time.

They'll usually come off their tagged prices and ive got a few decent deals there, but i wouldn't try to sell them anything. expect pawn shop level offers. You'll do much better selling here.

Not really taking up for them, because they are high, but they will deal if you talk to them. And they also will bypass that crap Brady fee they charge also. I've bought a couple guns years ago from them, and told them what I'd pay, because another lgs had it for this, and I would not be paying a Brady fee, or no cell. Walked out with the gun.

Been there twice, know people who have purchased there, I don’t have a single great thing to say about them. If you buy there, know you’re likely getting ripped off.

They do have some decent safe deals from time to time. (This doesn’t qualify as a “great” thing FYI)

When the M&P Shield came out, I tried to trade them a lightly used M&P 9 compact, 5 mags, and a holster for a new Shield. They offered me $150 and wouldn’t come off the $500 price tag for the Shield.

Make your own determination on if that was fair.

Note: I did not deal with them.

I have yet to have anyone ask if I needed help in the 7 or 8 times I have been there
I’ve only been there once and Larry waited on me. Not sure how that happened.

Sell your gun and then go online to check what you want to buy at Hyatt's.

You could probably get more from a pawn shop than from Hyatt's. Their online prices are often lower than their in-store prices on the exact same merchandise. I have literally had an employee whisper to me to step back from the counter, order online on my phone, and then walk to the front register to pick up my gun. And they don't even try to charge a "Brady fee" for online purchases.

I'll ask since nobody else will. What is it you want to trade? Unless its pure junk, I'm betting someone here will offer a fair price for it.

I think he smelled something other than money. It was summer as I recall.

I believe he got involved because I wasn’t so interested in the 100,000 guns on display and asked whether they had any older Smith automatics hiding “in the back”. At that point, I think someone called Larry.

I like the shop's selection, but there is one absolute tool working in the "tactical" area. I held my tongue listening to how he was talking to customers and treating the other staff. I do like their smith service, and if you talk to them in particular they are very reasonable and knowledgeable.

I agree with stickman. They will work a deal if you push for it. With today's climate you might be better off selling first. But, you could give them a try.

Hyatt's "Brady fee" was a charge for the "extra work" they had to do to comply with the Brady Act (e.g. doing the paperwork the law required).

I just checked online and Hyatt's now has a $29 fee for ordering online and picking up locally.

Well ...

I did not appreciate one of the gunsmiths putting an idiot mark on a 1911 that I had just meticulously refinished, but I gave up totally after an incident with Woody.

I had a Colt arched nylon mainspring housing for one of my stainless 1911s (replacing the stock straight nylon MSH) and wanted the same type of MSH for one of my blued Colts. I went to Hyatt's and found Woody to ask about buying or ordering a blue/black nylon MSH. As I described what I wanted, Woody told me emphatically that Colt had never made a product like that. I pulled the silver nylon MSH out of my pocket and told Woody that (among other things :p) he was misinformed.

Never been there, but I suspect there is a reason the media runs to him for a “gun owner’s perspective” whenever there is a high profile mass shooting. He’s gotten plenty of footage demonstrating that he’s no friend of gun owners.

Larry is a world class shyster.
Don't forget you'll have to pay their brady fee
I do know "highest" is there nickname
I was always scared I would get mugged in the parking lot before I got in, or carjacked on the way back to 485.

I dont have a clue who this guy is, and why would any gun owners darken his door with a reputation like this???

Because its BS mostly. Larry is in business to make a profit and some of our population resent a successful capitalist. The reputation for being high priced is well earned but this thread is the first time I've heard anyone call him dishonest and I think its not deserved.

Absolutely. That’s where he’s proved to me he’s all about the dollar, and is an “I support the 2A, but...” type of owner.

He called the internet the Wild Wild West, and doesn’t think you should be able to build from an 80% blank.

Wow, I had no idea the owner was like that.

And you don’t have to take my word for it. I recorded this a couple years ago and share it whenever anybody questions Hyatt.

and I assure you that’s not the only interview he’s given where you just shake your head in disbelief.

Why go to a place where you have to almost argue when you are choosing to spend your money? Unless it is a holy grail gun to me I’ll do my due diligence and drive by other shops (I even do so in non-firearms related business) to a shop that wants my business and treats me as such. High and mighty businesses who think that they can run over customers rarely stay in business ... Hyatt’s some how manages to have enough of a presence to stay in business ... somehow.

I didn't argue, I simply said if you talk to them, which is what I did. He had a couple Glocks in the mid 90's I wanted, and being as I lived right down the road, it was much easier to go there, than ride way over somewhere else, but only if I could get him to match the price on the guns that I called about at another shop, but didn't have in stock. Maybe someone is looking for something that he has, and others don't. If that's the case, and said person wants it bad enough, I simply stated they will deal if asked. If you or anyone else don't like Hyatt's, don't go there, pretty damn simple ehh.

The owner has made comments on interviews I don’t like. I wouldn’t say he’s anti 2A or he wouldn’t be in business but he is for certain against what most on the forum endorse. His prices are much higher than most gun shops due to the cost of doing business in a big city. That’s understandable to me and most people in business. Pricing is simple math. You have higher fixed and variable cost they must be added to the goods.

Most of his clients are in the metro area where wages are higher than rural NC which in comparison is a small. $29 for a Brady fee would turn me off immediately. Even if it was $5 due to the fact it’s a requirement to do federal checks on all guns sold. Apparently there are huge numbers of guns sold regardless of his fees and pricing. It’s pretty obvious his target customer is not knowledgeable gun shoppers like us on the forum. Given a couple thousand forum users in a 10.5 million population state I doubt we make a difference in his market audience.

I bought a Benelli shotgun from them in 1992. I paid $636 for a Montefeltro Super 90.
I was looking for a Sig SP2022 about 5 years ago. Stopped by Hyatt's and they told me that the distributor only had one left and Sig wasn't making them anymore so I had better buy it from them RIGHT NOW. Needless to say I found one somewhere else for much less and I believe Sig is still making them to this day?

Sig has discontinued at least the one with night sights and I think the plain one as well. But Sig discontinues stuff all the time, and reintroduces or changes part numbers down the road

I’m pretty sure the 2022 has been reintroduced 4 different times. But I’m guessing the P320 has killed it for good now.

Sig's website shows only one basic SP2022 model, but I bet it stays in production for a while because Sig only has basic models of the P226, P229 and SP2022 that can be sold in California.
