A few weeks back I bought a Raven arms 25 acp from one of our nice members. Grabbed a box of ammo and headed off to Geezer day. Only thing I really expected was for it to shoot a little and jam just as much. It did not disappoint in either one. The problem I encountered was after the first shot and ejection the slide would not spring back into battery allowing my second shot. I Would have to push slide forward and then it would fire without further malfunction till magazine was empty. Not a big deal. Was tickled it shot and actually was quite accurate for a mini.
Got home and decided to try to fix the issue. Figured 1 of 2 things could be the problem. I took it apart looking to see if it was dirty. It was pretty clean (could tell the last owner did not neglect it) in the usual parts but when I took grips off I did see a little traces of old oil that was a tad sticky. Wasn’t enough to really be a big deal though. Second thing I wanted to look at was the two springs that operate it. One was a little bent but nothing crazy. Lightly lubed everything and started to put it back together.
Here is where I almost killed the Raven.
Important things you need to know: I am doing this outside at my patio table and I am not great at mechanical things. Behind one of the grips are two metal pieces that move back and forth along with the trigger and also a very small spring and some piece that sit inside under the slide. I put all these pieces back together and they all attach to each other and move when trigger is pulled. So I decide to pull the trigger just a wee bit. In that instant the spring on top launches the metal piece across the table hitting the chair 5 feet away. That I found but the very small spring that works the gun is gone... I looked everywhere for it and had given up in defeat. I had a small trash bag out there to put all the used gun patches and as I went to grab that I saw the spring was near the bottom. I put it all back together and thanked the gun Gods.
Got out today to see how she would do. Had one issue with her but think I figured out what the problem was. Because it’s a small gun I think the slide was hitting my hand a little and slowing it down just enough for it to slam back forward. I only shot maybe 35 rounds after that but had zero issues. Fun little gun to shoot and pretty accurate. This was about 10 yards, maybe a tad more.

Good shooting for a little pocket gun, @Amps 13 , not matter the brand or caliber.

Now, do you think you can help me find my AR detents as easily as you found that spring? I'm pretty sure that one of them launched itself towards Jamestown.

Once it’s warm enough to walk around barefoot I bet I will find your spring if it made it here. Once I pry it from my foot I will send it back to you. ;)

Well dont' get no ideas. It don't work on old farts like us the same way as old guns. I wish it did. :(
Speak fer yer own self!

I'm like a Spring Chicken! I can whup any man that cain't whup me... matter of fact, I can whup any Two Men that cain't whup me!

In a 12 month period I went to 2 inquests. Both decedents were over 6 and a half feet tall and both closer to 300 than 200. Both were killed with a .25 auto. I have the .25 Browning in my safe that kilt the furstun. Both were One Shot Kills.
Most of the time my built-in translator has no problem deciphering your posts, but this one is lacking enough context to get a true translation. Mind elaborating? My first run at it says you shot and killed two big guys and still have thee gun from one of the run-ins. Am I close???

My first thought was web of hand interference with the slide. I have a Bauer 25 I bought for my first wife in 1975. I have shot it a little in the past few years, and with a normal-for-other-guns-grip high on the grip the slide slices the web of my hand until it bleeds. It seems to be a great little pocket gun but I'd need some sort of modified beaver tail to put on the grip to make sure it functions correctly.

Speaking of translating, my pistol shooting crowd is quite hard of hearing. But it's nothing like my sporting clays and trap groups. They are mostly my age (almost 66) and older and probably couldn't hear a sonic boom within 200 yards. We are considering hiring Garrett Morris as a translator.

Placement + penetration, as you often say!

Sorry Pard, sometimes over in the evening I get a little quick to tell the story and gitta bed. I knew both of the dead men and if there were ever 2 men that Needed to be shot it was this pair of brothers. Alas, I was only an attendee at the inquests. One of the shooters worked for my Daddy and that is how I ended up with the gun.

It'll give you the best chance you have with the puny things!!!! Hell, I'm just surprised Anybody remembered.....Thanks!

He's saying "mouse guns" killed two big ole boys DRT.

In doing what I do for over 25 years, I have to agree. 22s and 25s kill with no problem.

Little tip about Ravens and the lot. Most FTF's are caused by the magazine not being seated well enough. The heel catch is sloppy and doesn't hold the mag far enough up into the well. If this is happening to you put a little shim between the mag and the catch and see if that doesn't do the trick.

No issues with that “yet” but good to know for future reference. Thanks

I think the msrp was $59.95. A new one in the box today will fetch $150-200. There are actually collectors that specialize in Saturday Night Specials. I sold 2 Lorcins to a guy in Charleston last year at the show. I priced them at $100 each just to see if anyone would be interested. He bought both without negotiating the price and felt like he got a great deal.

I thought Saturday Night Specials were/are snub-nosed .38SPC’s???

Shooting 38 Special doesn’t make it a Saturday Night Special.

It’s generally used for small cheap guns. Theory being a criminal could use it and toss it.
