I have a couple lowers and uppers laying around and started building out a lower with the parts that I have on hand. Everything was going well until I started putting the front pivot pin in. I turned the lower around in the vice to make it a little easier to install the pin. I have done this a couple dozen times before without any problems. When pushing the take down pin through the lower the detent kept flying out. I am asking myself what in the hell is going on. Then I realized what I had done, When I turned the lower around, I was putting the take down pin on the wrong side of the lower. I got two detents laying around in my garage somewhere.
YES, I am KnotRight sometimes.

I lost several before trying thisā€¦. Try using a 1/4ā€ Clovis pin to install takedown pin detent and spring. Slide it through from the opposite side. Drop in your spring and detent. Press down with a punch, just enough to recess past the clevis pin, then rotate the clevis a 1/4 turn. Now, the solid side of the clevis is holding the detent and you can let go, if needed. Then butt the takedown pin against the clevis, hold them tightly together end to end and slide in the takedown pin. Easiest way I have found to install, without launching the detent and spring to the moon.

Try using one of these. I think that I got it from Midway. If you put the pivot pin in on the wrong side of the receiver, it does not matter what you use. The detent is going flying.

worth the cost in saved frustrations. I made my nephew fight with his pin/spring/detent while i stood around talking... then when he was done with his, i pulled out the tool and popped it right in.
He was MAD...
I said "you had to do it the hard way once..."

A gallon sized clear plastic bag is your friend during AR assembly.

No need for any "tool" to put the front pivot in...

Just use the front pin to compress the detent...
It takes about 10 seconds...
Its easy..
