So I am a bit of a 1911 fan and possible snob. I narrowed down my collection to a small snobby sampling of a few Dan Wessons and a Les Baer. Said with a nose in the air of course. So I have been looking for a commander sized in 9mm. Saw a Les Baer Black Baer for rought $2800 that got me all excited. Yeah, $2800. So that idea was percolating. Then I thought, damn, that is a lot of coin! A DW Valor can be had for $1600-1800. That isn't bad right? Then I saw their Valkyrie at Buds for $1299! It is aluminum but what the heck? So now my brain is thinking if I can get a DW for $1299 am I missing anything else? Talked to a fellow member and 1911 addict and decided I really want a steel frame since it won't be a EDC gun. Then ....

BAM!!!! Yep, I found exactly the set up I was looking for at Buds. And I hit the order button sight unseen. Never touched or fondled.

Shame me. I ordered a new Kimber!

Let me have it guys. Tell me how screwed up and unreliable this gun will be. Please get my mind right before I shoot it so I am conditioned for its crappiness!

Wtf. I thought this thread had a happy ending.

No, I like Kimber. Rob Cohen was their problem.

This Kimber (SIS) is on my gonna find list.

I guess a Kimber is OK if you want a gun named after a 7th grade cheerleader.
What's matte stainless and goes "Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping!?"

My Kimber stainless Target II with a Chip McCormick 8-rndr + 1 in the chamber & open black matte sights wielded by a 55 year old with weak eyes ringing steel at 25 yards.

:p

Sheeze, after reading the title of the post I figured you had taken a Dremel to the feed ramp

THIS is exactly what I was expecting to read and came here looking for ass chewing responses lol

If you have a good gunsmith, you can pay to accurize it or send it out to do so. You can replace all of the MIM parts.
You’ll find that the price after all of that is like getting a Stock Wilson, Ed Brown, or Guncrafter, though.

1911s can be finicky, so it takes experimenting with different ammunition, different recoil springs, or different magazines.

Most do not like to run dry, in general.

I have had a Guncrafter No Name, Ed Brown Special Forces, Ed Brown Kobra Carry, Mars Armament THUG, Wilson CQB, Detonics Combatmaster, and a Coonan 357.

I used to have a Kimber Raptor Pro and Ultra but they never became reliable for me. So I got rid of them.

I got rid of my Guncrafter and Detonics. The Guncrafter was great but I couldn’t get anyone to change its front sight for me, at the time. The Detonics wasn’t reliable.

Are the higher prices worth it? I don’t know. I kept everything that worked for me.

Of the lower priced 1911s, I’d be happy with a Dan Wesson, Springfield Range Officer, S&W Performance Center 1911, or Springfield TRP. I don’t know if I’d do a Kimber apart from a Gold Cup.

Odd, I've never owned a fincky 1911. Too bad I'm not so lucky with Powerball I guess. As to the running them wet I partially agree. My loose Colts ran wet, dry or whatever. When the tight Baer's and Wesson's were virgins they liked a good dose of lube. Now they are fine with a few drops. I'll have to see what the mystery Kimber brings.

Kimber was the first 1911 I shot, loved it, looked awesome, and they still look awesome in the magazines. However, just couldn't bring myself to buy one.

Can't believe you chose the Kimber over DW... Hopefully you got a good one!

I had 2 Kimber's, can't remember the model. Full size. Just didn't like them. For a 1911 I stick with a Springfield or a rock island. Are they super nice hand fitted? No but they go bang and I like em. I need another 1911.....

It was less $$ and steel instead of aluminum. May not have been wise, but of it doesn't run well, I'll learn to make it. The DW equivalent was about $700 more.

Seems to me that, if a Kimber is good enough for Harry Bosch, it should be good enough for anybody.

But I think you're gonna have to get the tat too.

Had one. Sold it. Beautiful 45 cal. Some guns are made to show people and some are made to always work. Kimber factory mags are trash.
