So I need to deck out a lower and I understand the trigger group but I need everything else that goes in it: the mag release, buffer tab springy thing, other springy things for the safety, the safety, bottom of the trigger guard, etc. What do you call all that and is there a kit form of all of that?

Just buy a complete lower parts kit. It will have the FCG (trigger and parts) and all those other things you mentioned. Unless you have a specific trigger that you want then just buy a kit that doesn’t come with the FCG. PSA and Primary Arms always have good deals on them

Should be able to find something that works for you from Thai link:

Lower parts kit.

You can get one complete with milspec trigger or you can buy them without the fire control group if you're going with a better trigger.

I've had very good luck with the CMMG Lower Parts Kits. Decent triggers for what you pay. And, for a 1st time builder, the parts kit comes packaged in a couple color coded baggies that make it easier to identify the parts.

Eff you, South Dakota!!

I agree with the sentiment, but the tax will be remitted to your home state. It's an absolute nightmare for on-line retailers having to figure out where to remit and report on all the tax they're being forced to collect. There is an entire industry being built right now to automate sales tax collection, reporting and remittance.

Do you have a budget in mind? What are your plans for the gun? Just a basic all rounder?
There's a big spread of what you can spend, from 50$ on the low end to 500$ or more on the high end.

Personally, I would save a little and spend at least 150-200 for a nice set of parts and a decent aftermarket trigger. I think you will find it worth it.

My first lower was a cheap lower parts kit. Still have that rifle, and not a single original part remains, expect the takedown pins. Every other part has been replaced. Wish I would have spent a little more and got something nice to begin with, which seems to be my experience every time I use cost as the main factor in my purchasing decisions!

I was actually going to recommend this kit for a cheaper one. The colored bags really help, especially if it's your first AR project. And, the couple I have installed did have triggers that were much better than most milspec stuff.

You can also get them without triggers, and buy your own.

If you are going with PSA try to get one of their kits with their EPT trigger. I've found it to be pretty darn good for a cleaned up milspec trigger.

If you put this together yourself get a couple of spare parts kits for the detent pins and springs. It never hurts to have extra springs.

Also get a clevis pin to put the front detent and spring in. Best buck and a half I ever spent on gun supplies.

Esp when you install a set of JP enhanced reliability springs. All my ARs with the EPT are rocking with about a 4.5lb smooth reliable and still safe bangswitch. Makes for nice clean groups when I actually care to shoot groups.

You have to spent about another $100 to better it.

Yep. I have 8 ARs. Two have the Larue MBT, three have the PSA EPT with JP springs. the others are some flavor of home polished milspec. I think I prefer the EPT to the MBT honestly, though the MBT isn't bad.

Right to Bear now does a build your own so you can sub in what you do and don't want, make things colored, ambi, etc. Price seems pretty decent.
