Long story short: Broke, need red dot because bad eyes and new rifle.

I had a Walmart gift card and decided just to take a quick look, see what they had. I found a T1 style red-dot for next to no money ($18 shipped) that looked pretty much like every old style Primary Arms model, so I figured I would give it a try. I also happened to find a .223 laser bore sight "cartridge" for $9 and gave that a try too, both manufactured by Pinty.

Red dot https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pinty-Tac...153#about-item

Bore sight: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pinty-Las...Nato/185087336

Got them just now and I am surprised. The red dot looks and feels exactly like the older model Primary Arms T1 clones. No crunch in the dial, clean movement when zeroing (I bore sighted it with the laser bore sighter just now, more on that below) and seems pretty solid.

The bore sighter was brighter than I was expecting, I was able to bore sight at about 50 yards on the side of a camper in the yard on an semi-overcast afternoon. Should do to get me on paper at least before I head to the range. I rotated the cartridge in the chamber and it didn't seem to appreciably change the position of the dot, so it just might have been bored straight!

I had never heard of this brand, but they seem pretty solid, have mostly decent reviews. I'll keep y'all posted after I shoot it at the range, since at this price point you could have a decent plinking sight or easy bore sight for not a lot of money. And yes, I realise it's possibly Chinese junk, but it feels a lot more solid than most of the usual suspects!

Everyone has to start somewhere (not saying youre just starting!), and this review might help someone get into shooting a little more if they are on a budget.
Thanks for the write up!

Looks like a re-branded TruGlo with the coloring. I suppose it may work for a plinker 22 but I would still pony up the extra cash for at least a TRS-25 or a PA. I don't think everything needs an Aimpoint, but I like PA and they have great CS if anything goes wrong.

Let us know how it works for you. If it does prove itself worthy we'd like to hear.

And normally I totally agree with you, but I'm zero income right now so my choices were seriously limited.

Oh it killed me at first to entertain the idea, I got burned hard by Chinese optics when I was first starting out. However, I have noted there is a vast improvement in quality in recent years, for certain brands. I'm hoping this is one of them.

And PA have unfortunately almost doubled in price since I last bought one.

The Chinese are perfectly capable or making consistent high quality products. They just USUALLY don't.

I have 4 small red dots from Amazon, field and sports I think. $20 each. 2 are one Ruger 22/45s, my Ar in 556 and one is on a Ruger 10/22. They all have several hundred rounds with no issues at all. The sights are a good weight, water resistant, and they work for me.

The Japanese discovered Deming.... Maybe the Chinese did too? I might put one of these on a Marlin 60 I picked up.......
