I have a thread going on another gun forum but since this form is more local I was going to reach out to see if anybody could help me.
Original thread

Basically I need a locksmith to clone a 2008 Mercury Milan key for me. I have an, read one, original. Quite honestly I don't want to pay $300 to have a dealership do this for me. Can all locksmiths do this or does it require a special set of skills (not the Taken kind hopefully)?

If any of you know of any competent locksmiths in the Anderson County Greenville County area I would appreciate a reference.
Thanks,
Brawny

Last key I needed like that was for a jeep Cherokee. I bought the chipped blanks on Amazon for 60 bucks 2 keys and 2 remotes. Drove jeep to dealer. For 60 bucks they encoded the chips and cut both keys.

I've only called one dealership, but they said they would not cut a key other than their own. Something about the metal yeah yeah yeah I stopped listening at that point

Call another dealer in the area. Ask for the parts dept and ask them how much to cut a key and program for you. Look until you find one.

I may do that. I just got off the phone with the local locksmith and he said can do it and he quoted me $75. At this point if he can do it for $75, even if I can't open the car remotely, I'll be happy.

Locksmiths can handle it... UNLESS it's a Nissan intelligent key like mine then the dealer wants $300.

I bought one from Amazon for $60 and still had to pay the dealer $88 to program it. They kept going on about this could fail and it will be useless blah blah and you should pay us for the whole key. I finally got pissed and told them to just do it and it works fine.

Did I mention I'm not happy with our dealership?

I want to add, and this doesnt apply to everything but my experience, the programing of things like unlocking using the remote can often be found online and quite simply.
My example is older, 03, but I bought a fob off of an online nissan dealership (some dealerships charge MUCH less than others) and programmed it myself in minutes using youtube.

Good luck man!
