I noticed this the other day when I had to re-up my stash of 45acp.

I thought now wait a second...no way did I go through this many rounds. Then I realized that I wasn't shooting them all, but others were.
I absolutely love to have new shooters and show them the ropes. I expect to eat some ammo. All good, no problems.

So I got to thinking about it, and remembered that most of it went to guys who have no excuse for no ammo. One of them just bought a Sig 1911...I don't know which one..a full size with the pic rail on the dust cover. Regardless, a pricey gun.
He brings one box of 50 with him. And you bet, he goes through that instantly.
"Hey..you got some 45? I'll get it back to you..."
Problem is, they forget and never do.

I provide a vanishing species..a great outdoor range in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains that I solely maintain, shoot whatever you want however you want, no fees, no worries, great time.
Am I supposed to supply gas so you can get here too?

I put this in handguns but it's the same with the long guns. And 308 and 30-06 rounds add up real quick.

Sorry to go on a crying jag, but dadgum, it's starting to bend me a little bit. I guess what I'm relaying is that if someone is nice enough to invite you over to shoot, bring enough ammo for yourself and the extra nice thing to do would be to bring them a box of ammo for the favor.

There is no aspect of shooting that is free.

lol. What makes it kind of difficult is I realize that no-one is intentionally trying to take advantage. They're just not thinking things through and it ends up being at my expense.

Yes thank you and I promise not to use the a/c in order to improve the mpg.
I'm on the way now. :D

Wait till you buy a full auto. Lots of people like to shoot it, and it goes fast! :)

Like you, I'm always ready to share and watch the "giggle switch" smile appear.

It gets worse. I've got two kids. 2/3rds of my ammo, gone.. Pretty near the point of me not shooting unless they are away from the property because they always come out and want to throw my money downrange.

And there is value in that. I really do enjoy having others come shoot. I never have issues with hardcore muggs like ya'll, you guys bring ammo cans full of the stuff. It's always the Sunday shooters...the guys who give equal time to their fast car, big truck, fishing, biking, whatever. They enjoy shooting but to them it's just another thing. It's not a lifestyle like it is with us.

Just picked up my Desert Eagle 50 at Cabelas. They suggested I run 5 or 6 boxes thru it to break it in properly but they're fresh out of ammo. How's your stock of 50? I'll gladly pay you back Tuesday. :D

I’m with y’all. I probably shoot about half the ammo I buy. The rest I use letting other people shoot my stuff. Normally it’s people I’ve invited to go shooting so they are new to the hobby. I really don’t mind at this point. The look on their face is payment enough.

A 50?
Oh hell no. That's when I draw the line. You get 4 shots and then you set the gun down.
I ain't taking out a second mortgage so's folks can d**k around with my 50. :D

Ok...
How about 49?

I remember we had an epic thread on another forum that started out "Where do you guys get your free ammo?"
The guy was convinced there was someone just giving it away.

Another anecdote was once when I was a little short on cash, I asked my buddy what you do when your hungry and don't have any money? His reply was "I usually just come over to your house".

I used to "share with a new shooter". Now, I will share the .22 all day long, but use the "I don't allow others to shoot my reloads" safety thing. On the other hand, I do open my factory ammo supply to young shooters and very friendly women. Works for me.

IIRC the last time I went to the range I supplied ammo and some guns but didn't shoot a shot lol

Which is doubly amusing because lately if I get to shoot twice a year, it's a lot.

Can I have directions, gas money if you've 9mm or 40 to burn up?

Oh, what's for lunch?

.22lr no problem in one of my suppressed pistols, any other caliber gets 5 rounds in the mag.:).

I really never mind giving out some hand gun ammo if someone needs some. What I do mind though is when they ask if they could get some 22lr and the only thing I have with me is some Eley black box and when I say yea but it is $15 per box and they get pissed that I would not give it to them. Never once has someone said that they would pay

Actually, I have some 4o that you could shoot and it wouldn't get my fur up.
It's that lipstick stuff, what's it called? Total Synthetic Jacket. (hadta go look)
Don't care for it. Wanders all over. Doesn't seem real accurate in my 40's.

Off topic but to chime in, I haven’t been shooting just to shoot since the last time I saw the ammo shelves bare. And until that point I had never considered what ammo I had on hand a “stockpile” which believe me, it is now....5ish rounds of .308 gets me through deer season and fills the freezer, and that gets replenished 200x over because ‘Mercia.

There is your solution! Whenever anyone asks for ammo, just give them the lipstick .40 . . . regardless of what they might be shooting. :D

If I visit for a spell I'll bring ammo. I might want to try 5 rounds to see what it does.
Since I have plates out back, it always seems I'm teaching a newbie and not shooting much myself.

I feel your pain, I’ve had to back off of taking a few certain friends shooting so much because it’s not uncommon to go through 500 rounds of 9mm and 500 rounds of 5.56 in a single range session, it’s not that I mind but it gets really expensive real quick.

My daughter has a friend that is a single 25 yr old female and from day one she has shown up every single time with 9mm & 5.56 ammo prior to going to the range, the amount she brings doesn’t matter to me at all and I’ll let her shoot until she is sick of shooting because she at least makes the effort to contribute.

My ammo stash has gone to nearly zero since I got my daughter the Scorpion pistol and put a Strike Eagle on my wife’s AR, my wife is now asking (informing is more accurate) to hit the range now and I’m loving it, it’s expensive as hell but totally worth it to see her enjoying her AR.

I too only shoot half my ammo.

The other half I throw at the targets. The result is the same but I don't need to clean my guns as often.

My ammo stash has out grown the cabinet and I am buying 30 caliber plastic boxes from Habor Freight for each caliber that I shoot. Plus I have more reloading supplies than I have ever had. All that is store outside. I have a good stash inside if ever needed. Maybe when the weather gets below 80 I will be sprnding more time at the range. I do not mine people shooting my reeloads but only in my guns with ne there.
