Those new AFSC codes confound me but I think that is what we used to call 306X0 (with 'X' for skill level. That electronic cryptographic systems technician. If so, hi brother! I think they moved the crypto compound from Lackland to Keesler sometime after I left active duty.

I guess techincally it should be 2E2X1 - X being skill level again. Sounds like we had similar jobs. I think when they changed the AFSC codes the merged some jobs - so I was crypto and network. I think they have since merged again with the Comp Trollers into a new AFSC.

Ah, fond memories of Myrtle Beach AFB I have from my Infantry infancy... there were many weekends in the early and mid 80s we would bum rush down there in a platoon sized element, fight with Marines, shack up with some girls for the night in a motel , dump them the next morning...and then head over to the AFB, eat on our meal cards in the mess hall, shower and clean up at the gym, then hit the class VI for resupply and start over.
Used to be the only place in MB where you could buy alcohol on a Sunday was the MBAFB class VI/shoppette.
Also...we never gave the AF dudes any shit down there, not like the ones at Pope we would dog all the time...MB had the A-10s stationed there back then and we f***ing LOVED (still do) us some Warthogs.

No. When I got there in 82 it was great. Busy 3 months a year and pretty quiet the rest of the time. Except for those damn Canadians (again!!) coming down to swim in the ocean ind Oct/Nov thinking it was summer.

DoD was conducting and All Service briefing, when asked "What would you do if you found a camel spider in your tent?"

The Navy Sailor said, I'd step on it!

The Army Soldier said, I'd catch it and keep it as a pet!

The Marine said, I'd brake the legs off and eat it!

The Airman said, I'd call room service and find out what a tent was doing in my suite!

During this same briefing, an announcement was made about lunch, the DoD briefer said " Ok, we're braking for chow, you Army guys be back at 1300, you Navy guys be back at 13 bells, you Air Force people be back at 1:00, and you Marines, Mickeys big hand is on the 12 and his little hand is on the 1 !"

Three Marines were out walking in the woods when they came upon a set of tracks. The 1st Marine says look, rabbit tracks! The 2nd Marine says that's not rabbit tracks you dumbass, that's deer tracks! 3rd Marine says, you're both stupid asses, those are bear tracks! They were still arguing when the train hit them!

USAF 1966 - 1970

Crew Chief on 1 & 2 engine jet fighters.

F100 Super Sabre at Cannon AFB, Clovis, NM and Phan Rang AFB, Phan Rang, VietNam. (08/67 - 08/68)
F-4 Phantom at Seymour Johnson AFB, Goldsboro, NC.

Went in "Lower than whale sh*t at the bottom of the ocean," came out E5.

USAF: We kept the planes flying, and provided air support to those fighting on the ground. We had it good.

Oh, yeah, we're here...

P51-C. Cool plane. The A and B models had a different canopy and a less powerful engine. The Cs were the cats ass and a nazi killer!

We may have passed each other in '66 at Lackland. My last date of service was 26Aug66, a date I will NEVER forget! What was your USAF job?

Me too - an instructor at the Crypto School at LAFB. Maybe you were one of my students

When stationed in Germany in 1976 by the US Army, I was sent to the Ramstein airbase to pick up a part we needed for one of our attack heli birds. I was given a meal ticket for breakfast at the mess hall. Walked in and saw table cloths, flowers in vases on the tables and realized that I was in a different world. Grabbed a tray and hit the chow line, the grill cook adressed me with "what can I make for you "? My first instinct was look behind me wondering if there was an officer there and he was talking to him. Quickly I realized that, it was ME he was talking to.. I was an E-3 at the time and hes talking to me nicely ?????? The entire experience there was amazing, I actually felt human or like a real person until I hopped back on the Huey, part in hand and went back to Army life..
