I was feeling at bit cranky at work today.

Somewhere on the interweb there is a story told by someone who called AZ to buy an axle bearing for his race car with a 9" Ford rear.

He was on the phone long enough with more than one person ( who all kept asking for the make / model ) that he literally drove to the store while alternating between being on hold and transferred around to sales people who could not help him. It is a very funny story, probably goes back 10 years.

.

Found it. But the language is NSFW so I posted it in the Basement.

Being the guy behind the counter is easily just as annoying as being asked all the questions about your vehicle. If your asking them for help it's because you don't know which part you need. If you need their help you will have to answer the questions before the computer will give anybody the answer. That system almost always pisses off everybody involved.

I used to be merciless towards people who would just say the year and the manufacturer.

"ITS A 2012 NISSAN"

When you ask for more info like say, the model of car they just yell it in your face again.

"I SAID ITS A 2012 NISSAN!!!!"

I can't help you.

What kind of car do you have, ma'am?

"White".

I work at an Autozone store and today I wasn't in the Zone.
First Cust walked in the store and we are supposed to greet them with the usual bla bla.
I changed that up to " Welcome to Autozone where we sell cheap Chinese junk and give bad advise, How can I help you !"
Most folks laughed, some scattered into the store as they searched for car wash soap. The dumber ones asked me, which one is best.. " Lady, its car wash soap, what color bottle do you like? "
Manager tells me I need to be nicer,, Nope , not in the mood for dumb folks today.
Then I had some intelligent customers that actually need some help with their cars and were receptive to some advise and I steered them in the right direction. I've been in the auto repair business for the past 50 years and work at an AZ now, those customers are the reason why I actually show up at work . Since I only work part time, they have learned my hours and they are the only reason my local AZ keeps me employed.. Maybe tomorrow will be better?
Sounds like you need a break and some quality time re-evaluating why you do what you do and who you do it for. When I get this way I take a few days not just off from work but also off from "people" and spend as much time a) in the woods
b) with my dog
c) on my tractor
d) on my motorcycle

It may also be that you just need a new place to work. If you aren't happy there, things aren't going to change unless something else changes.

Got an email this morning. We got cited by a state inspector for not having required documents at one of our facilities we acquired 3 years ago. We have 30 days to correct.

I was copied on the email as the SME for the documents. Replied that I won't be able to even look at it until after the 1st of the year. If you need it before then, contract it out. Shouldn't cost more than $5k to get it done.

Not my problem. I didn't buy the company without making sure we had the required documents. This should have been done 3 years ago.

Ive been reading a lot of sort of complaints about Auto parts stores in general, meaning lack of help or knowledge. It all comes down to pay and the people we attract. There at AZ if someone is wearing a red shirt, don't expect a lot and their starting pay is $9 per hour. After you have been there for maybe 2 years its going to go up to $10. Gray shirt wearers are usually Asst managers and they have a lot of responsibility and will make $13-15. We have a heck of time finding people that want a job and if they do get hired, getting them to actually come into work is difficult. Its not a long term career for anyone and I tell all of our young staff to stay in school and learn something useful or start a trade school, Think of your future cause this isn't it.

Probably doesn't help that I'm paid more to sit by and open a door than they're apparently paying your store managers, with no having to cover for people, do bank deposits etc. Day ends and I am done.

I would probably go insane quickly at your job. I actually enjoy almost all of our customers and know most of them either by name or face. I only work there part time M-F 8 to 12 mainly to get away from the Wife and the 20% discount I get on my endless supply of car and Motorcycle parts I buy from the store.

I don't know about insane, but I would cheerfully process the vast majority of humanity into cattle cars for transport and summary destruction these days.

I make an effort not to get to know these people, or the general public because in my experience that leads to endless tedious sob stories and begging for money/assistance. I find maintaining a cool demeanour combined with a flat, dead tone of voice and facial expression deters all but the most committed scumbag.

I had previously given my supervisor and our director an estimate of ~5600 hours needed to catch up on compliance issues. They wanted more info. I spent the past week searching old files and building a new database. Just gave them my update.

It's worse than we thought. My new estimate is now 13,343 man hours IF we never buy another company, change any managers or build another plant. I sent the email and 3 minutes later got an teams meeting notification for tomorrow šŸ˜‚.

I've posted about this before, kid at the Zone tried to sell me a core battery as new, the date code on the top was two years earlier then the date I was buying the battery. The terminals were dirty, no caps on the terminals.

I was confused as heck when they asked me what engine I had to buy windscreen wiper blades when I first started driving here.

Then I realised it was a kid following a little checklist thing on his computer. I however had no idea what engine it was lol
It's not a windscreen, it's a windshield. It would get awful breezy in the car having a screen in the front instead of a shield. When are you going to assimilate and learn how to talk the proper English?? šŸ˜

Prolly calls the trunk a boot too.

I've considered applying at my local parts stores just for something to do until I find better. I don't see how they can get anybody to work for less than $15/hr. It's just not enough money to survive.

There's only soo many highschool students and retirees out there.

We have almost no one under 20. The few high school kids that have hired on were shocked they have to tuck in their uniform shirts, have to work the posted schedule, and canā€™t wear AirPods during their shift.
