While doing some reloading tonight (223s) I began thinking looking to my reloading closet, what do I have the most ammo in. Less break it down to hand gun and long gun.

My long gun could be a ton of 22 LR and 223s. What I have the less in is the 300 BOs. Would say some 7.62.x 39 but I think that I and a wooden case with around 1500 rounds in there some where and maybe 10 loaded magazines.
.
Handgun, again it is the 22 LR followed closeness by the 9 mm. I know for fact that I only have 200 rounds of 25 CAL that has been shot in 40 years.

My wife thinks that I am crazy because every room has ammo in it. Either in plastic MTM boxes, magazines or plastic 30 cal storage containers. Hell I am running out of places to store it.

Not really interested if you 5000 223 and 100 22 lr but what caliber do you have the most and less in? Long and handguns.

You can store it at my place. :D

I have more 22lr than anything else.
Then .223
Then 9mm
Then 45acp
Then 38 special
Then 357 mag
Then 38 super
Then a bunch of stuff like .41 mag, 44 mag, 45LC, 30-30, 45-70, 300 blk, 22 hornet, etc.

This lines up with what I shoot most, except that I haven’t been shooting the 22lr much since I started reloading.

.22lr, 9mm, 5.56, .40, .45, .380, 7.62, .308, 12ga shells + slugs.

I consolidated all firearms to mainly 3 calibers a few years ago.....Have mostly .22....then 9mm...then .223. Also have an assortment of shotgun shells. I will be buying more 9mm and .223 the rest of this year.

Love that packed safe!

I have a little less than 200 rounds of .45, followed by 100 rounds of .22, then maybe 50 rounds each of 9mm and .380, and about 25 rounds of .38.....a pretty sad assortment.

... what caliber do you have the most and less in? Long and handguns.

Most rounds (both categories) .22lr
Otherwise:
Long gun: 7.62x51 most (formerly 5.56), .243 Win least
Hand gun: 9mm Luger most (formerly .45ACP), .44 magnum least

Is that ammo stored in safes?

I always wonder about that, I’ve decided that thieves are unlikely to be grabbing 35lb ammo cans and running.

A full ammo can is worth more than just about any other single thing of comparable weight/size in my home not stored in a gun safe. A full can is worth between $200 and $500 depending on caliber and load type ... plus the hood rats wouldn’t have to buy no mo’ bullets for they Glock, Nine, Fordy or whatever they be packin’.

This is what I was thinking would come out of the question. NATO rounds except the 22s.

Yeah, none of that commie ammo for me!

I have 22lr/25auto/.380/38 spec/.357Mag/9mm/40 S&W/.45acp/.5.56/7.62x39/300AAC/284WIN

Not likely to buy more of:
.380 acp I am transitioning my EDC from G42 to P365 I have over 500 rounds of defensive .380.
.357 Mag. I would rather shoot 38 or 9mm in my Rhino
40. my first pistol was a S&W SD40 and I have a bunch of golddots and fmj, I do have a G22 if I wanted to shoot these.
45ACP I have maybe 500 rounds of defensive and FMJ but I do not currently own a 45
284WIN 80 something hunting rounds came with a 1983 700 but I dont shoot it so...

I am planning on getting more ammo before 2020 election for the calibers I actually train with (9mm/556/7.62/300AAC) I have around 4-5 k of all except the 300AAC. I definitely am going to get into reloading in the near future

Got .22lr stacked deep AF. Long gun wise, I've got big piles of 6.8SPC, 5.56 & 7.62x39. At a minimum, I've got a couple hundred rounds each of everything I shoot, including .30-30, with the exception of .45-70. For handguns, I've got more 9mm stacked than anything, but also several hundred rounds of .45 & .380.

As far as rollin' my own, I've got components on hand to load a couple thousand rounds each of .45, 9mm, 6.8, .357Mag, .357Max & .41Mag.

Guess I'm at what I consider my minimum 'basic load' & want to lay back enough 9mm & 5.56 for the wife & I to to be able to do some legit training.

Sorry Mr ATF Agent and Mr Sheriff, I had a boating accident. I only have 8 rounds of 9 mm and 50 rounds of 22 LR. Can somebody loan (Buy?) me some ammo?

Why so much? I have two 12ga shells, ready to be shot up into the air. That’s all Uncle Joe said I needed.

Why wait? I fired the 2 shotgun shells I had into the air (I think they're technically called "blasts"?) last year and haven't seen anyone around since. No reason to wait until the last minute, do it now and keep the bad guys away preemptively. Then you can sell the gun back for a $50 walmart gift card.

Man, why do you guys not think of this on your own? Guess it's a good thing I'm here to guide you.

I keep all sorts of 9mm/223/556 on hand, but I've been on a wheelgun kick for a while and have exactly 170 rounds of 357 on hand. Every range trip I have to reload the same brass. Dumb, but fun.

Been trying to cut down on calibers so I don't have to stock such variety, it's worked out pretty well.

10k plus of .22LR
5K plus each of 9mm, 38 SPL & 45ACP
2K plus of 223/5,56
1K each of .357 & 300BLK
300 12 Ga 00 buck
600 or so 44 Magnum
Couple hundred 308/7,62 Nato
And some other that I'm sure I didn't think about.

Oh...components to load another couple of thousand each of 9mm, 38 SPL, 357 Mag & 45ACP.

I keep sayin' I need to do that, but it just never works out that way. I geek out over the offbeat 'reloader only' type chamberings & the list just seems to keep slowly growing.

But... I also prepare for that & will often have dies & components for 500-1000 rounds on hand before I even receive the gun. Hell, I started reloading in order to feed my .41Mags, so gearing up for .357Max caused nary a blip in my ammo process, other than the 15 minutes it took to set up the new dies & powder measure.

Oh yea, that. OK so I do that too sorta. I have 5 calibers that I only handload for, so I don't think of them as something I have to stockpile and they "don't count" as far as reduction in calibers. Anything that gets shot in significant quantity is 9mm (pistols, PCC). The spreadsheet says that in 2018 63% of all rounds I fired was 9mm, and this year it's at 77% 9mm. I just replaced one of my 556 guns with a 9mm version, so that percentage will only climb next year.

I'm not saying how much I have .It is sufficiently enough to get me through any confrontation that might present itself to my location. . For some reason if I see CCI HV HP 22 ammo at a cheap price I buy it .Same for Winchester white box 9mm 124 grain NATO .. Ammo I'm low on is 7.62x39, 41 magnum, 44 special, 45 Colt,300BO. Can never have enough 223/5.56.

Accessories are 'extra's' that are nice, convenient, but not mandated such as grips, upgraded sights, optics, holsters, slings, etc.

Ammo is required.

I don’t have the totals in front of me, but as a rule I try to keep > 2k of my main calibers, .22, 9mm, .223

And then 500 of all else: .300AAC, .45, .38, .357, 7.62x54r, .44 special, 9mm Largo.

I rarely shoot shotguns other than duck hunting, but I’ve still managed to get a good collection of bird/buck/slug on hand. It just takes up so much darn space!
