So I impulse bought a deactivated RPG-7 and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it once I reactivate it. I'll post pics here once I get it and more when I get it form 1'd and reactivated.

I'm looking for ideas on what to shoot with it once it's reactivated.

* I can't find any subcal kits outside of random forum references so I think I'm SOL there.
* I found some 3d print models for dummy rounds. I was thinking about making some sort of ignition system and shoving a model rocket motor into one (or make some r-candy and hope no one asks questions).
* I don't really want to litter everywhere with shards of plastic though. I might be able to make a foam mold for a nerf football or something so it'll be somewhat reusable like this. Maybe mold some chalk nose cones?
* I might be able to modify a can cannon to fit in the warhead area of a printed warhead with a hole in the front. Maybe print the tip that's removed and attach it to the front of the can
* All of these are going to need to figure out a way to transfer the perpendicular firing pin into something useful. The rocket engine one might be able to use something simple like a percussion cap/nipple in the side to ignite it. Maybe have a little initial charge for some sustained heat. Maybe an electric model rocket igniter and a switch where the firing pin hits
* find a subcal trainer, thread it for rifle grenades, suppress it

I dont think it would take all that much effort to machine a 50 Cal sub caliber insert.

Cram it full of gunpower, add a model rocket igniter, hook the igniter wires & a battery to the trigger w/ a break between them, then point, aim, & make contact. Whoosh, Boom.

I highly suggest that you DO NOT reactivate it, even if ATF allows. A crack deadlines a rocket launcher as in IT WILL BLOW HOT GASES IN YOUR FACE. Played and fired enough of these to now. I repair the 84mm Carl G also.

Are you going to brew your own driver motors for it? I'm sure most of the larger scale model rocket fuels should work.

Not for the trainer. It was $200 and I don't want to buy a new one every time I rip the fins off or dent the cap. I haven't decided if I'm gonna make my own fuel yet but it's an option. It'll depend on how heavy a printed one (unsure if I'll mold chalk for it, keep it hollow, or use foam for the "warhead") ends up and how cheap I wanna be.

@Combat Diver I'm just reactivating the launcher so I can get the giant rod out of the center of it and not get my cat shot by the ATF. Gonna be launching model rockets (cardboard tubes contain those pressures), shaped like the trainer, out of the launcher with a 3d printed housing. This'll never fire a legit rocket ever again.

Estes makes model rockets with flip out fins like those rockets or at least they used to. We made a launcher outta pvc, a heavy coat hanger, a radio shack push button and a plastic box your baby teeth came and a 9volt in and used to launch rockets like that. We got glued the nose cone on and no parachute. We mixed 20% powder and 80% shaved road flare packed with toilet paper and shot that. When parachute charge went off it blew up. We were kids. We were stupid. Blew a small hole in a barn before we started the 80/20 mix and got whipped with the belt kinda bad lol. After that we only did it when they left us home alone after dark. It’s prettier after dark. Also stump remover and sugar cooked to paste makes a bad a** smoke rocket.

This is really cool!

I like the idea of using Estes model rocket engines. It wouldn’t be too difficult to wire up their ignition system into the RPG and make it pretty clean.
As for warheads, my initial thought was a thin 3D printed head filled with a colored powder to simulate an explosion on impact of a hard surface.
