Identify this mushroom

Some kind of polyphore? Umbrella polyphore?

I showed it to the wife last night.

Said she wanted to see more pics of the individual stems.

Long story short, neither one of us can figure out what it is. A lot of things we know it's not.

Not oysters, not honey, not chicken or hen.

Just not sure what it is.

I've got some very similar looking ones growing at the base of a dead sweet
gum

This was also growing in the base of a dead sweet gum.

I would take more pics but they are all shriveled and rotting away at this point.

I've got 3-4 other groups of them that have popped up (I believe from the root system of the same old tree).

I have no clue what they are, haven't taken the time to dig out my shroom book, spore print, etc. I tend to only eat wild Oysters, I know those wont kill me and they are easy to ID.

@thrillhill I'll grab some pics of the ones in my yard and post them up.

A wise old chicken once told me, "There are old mushroom hunters and there are bold mushroom hunters, there are no old AND bold mushroom hunters."

Good chance these may have a very strong after taste of hospital food.
