Today during my lunch break I stopped by UPS to send of and RMR and slide that I’m having milled. RMR was in the factory box and I had the slide packaged up in brown wrapping paper and some tape. Guy takes them and asks me if these are “firearm parts”, I told him “no, it’s and optic and optic accessories”. He gave me some BS about how the ATF is “really monitoring this type of stuff” and that he wasn’t going to be able to accept my package.

I was completely blown away and told him that none of this stuff was a firearm nor could it be assembled into one. He told me that “there was no way to know if people could be sending parts to someone separately so they could assemble a firearm”.........at this point I knew I knew I was dealing with a whole new level of idiot so I took my stuff and left.

I guess I’ll be sending this stuff via USPS or Fedex. Part of me wants to contact UPS corporate but I wonder if it’s even worth my time?

Does suck, but I wouldn't have said anything after "no"

Priority mail with tracking included. Flat rate box. Was this UPS Store or corporate location?

I am willing to bet it was a UPS store and they are 3rd party shippers and can set their own terms. They can refuse to ship anything firearms related if they want to.

Yeah, I didn't realize that UPS Store was 3rd party shippers before today.

I once had a UPS store refuse to send a Garand Stock. Just the stock. No metal parts at all. A chunk of wood.

Alright, riddle me this Batman...

I get ammo FEDEX deliveries all the time. Is that just due to corporate origination of the package?

I may have to send some ammo to members here if UK does not get their head out of their butts so I need to be sure.

Some are better than others, the UPS store in Clayton is the opposite, very helpful. I shipped several rifles recently (GunBroker sales) in and out in a couple minutes. The clerks made the suggestion to declare items as sporting goods so as to not list as a firearm.

If you can find a corporate UPS location, usually at a distribution center, they are much more accommodating. No big deal, just be sure to label OMD. At least it used to be that way. Don't know about FedEx. Might want to call FedEx and ask them. Again, stay away from third party centers and deal with the shippers directly. Wasn't there a thread here somewhere about shipping?

I agree with others here with just saying "no", only I would have said a little more:

"No. And if it were, I wouldn't use a UPS store, I'd use a UPS Customer Center in accordance with the UPS instructions."

The Czech Republic refused to allow one of my holster to be shipped in. The guy can own the gun but not one of my fine holsters to carry it. SMDH I usually tell them it's leather goods but since it was sold on eBay they know exactly what it is.

I've shipped bottles of homemade cordials before...not allowed to ship alcohol!

Those aren't alcoholic drinks...they're fruit drinks! See? This one is made from blueberries, this one from raspberries, this one from strawberries...

I believe it is a federal crime to ship a firearm through a common carrier without first declaring that it's a firearm. Might want to check into that before following their advice.

Posting a link to this would help us all.

It may all come down to the the definition of a firearm. The part that's has a SN?

https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/may-nonlicensee-ship-firearm-common-or-contract-carrier

A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm or ammunition, prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm and requires obtaining written acknowledgement of receipt.

Probably not given they're third-party shippers (and possibly franchises?). But a couple years ago I was having a regular problem with UPS deliveries and I wrote a letter to the CEO. Things changed VERY quickly, and I've never had a problem since.

(I actually didn't want to go straight to corporate, but I couldn't find any contact info for anything more local.)

Few years ago had UPS man put box inside my garage at the steps to the door to laundry room,
I almost fell off the two steps but grabbed the doorknob. I called the 800 number and the woman
on the other end could care less. Told her he has no business in my garage.
