Little gun in combination with misfiring factory ammo made me really appreciate my G34 + reloads.

Well, boys, I have found my happy place. This little Block 9mm did exactly what it is was supposed to for it's first time out of the box. It's only failing was that it had me as the operator, but beyond that I was real pleased with it.

You ran that baby Grock well!

Looking like a good weather forecast for it, too.

I'm getting jazzed.

Finally figured out how to reprogram my Streamlights. lol

I feel like Flounder on Animal House, "THIS IS GONNA BE GREAT!!" Shooting in the dark with rules we haven't made up yet. Am I the only one getting excited yet!? Ha!

Can we use weapon lights for no score?

According to the new rules, and if our Match Director decided to allow it and our scoring software can handle it**, a weapon mounted light would put you in the new SPD division and still shoot for score. SPD has similar requirements as SSP as far as mag loadout (10 rounds, three mags total, start 10+1).

**Amp has already commented that you could shoot for no score, so that may mean our scoring software can't handle SPD at this time.

From THE BOOK...

8.2.10

Specialty Divisions (SPD)

A. IDPA encourages shooters to practice their gun handling skills with commonly carried firearms. Many everyday carry firearms do not fit into the 6 competition handgun divisions.
B. IDPA allows clubs to add “Specialty Divisions” for scoring. This division allows cartridges smaller than 9mm, carry optics, activated lasers, mounted lights, and other firearms which do not fit into the other competition divisions to participate in matches.
C. All other IDPA equipment rules apply for holsters and loading device holders as well as their placement on the body. Match Directors also have the option to allow junior shooters with .22 rimfire firearms to begin strings at low ready in lieu of requiring a holster.
D. All IDPA membership rules apply.
E. Specialty Division classifications are based on the shooters highest classification of regular IPDA divisions.
F. Clubs are not required to implement this provision, and Match Directors are allowed discretion with implementation so that match quality remains high

So after standing outside all day, we can stand outside and eat dinner before we stand outside and shoot the night match? No thanks. Plenty of places to sit inside, relax, and enjoy dinner.

I was getting ready to post the same thing, then googled them, lol. Yup, dining room in Dunn.

The weather forecast is looking pretty forgiving for tomorrow afternoon and evening for the day/night shoot at 1 PM. I believe registration will be at noon.

Alright, packing up the car now. If anybody has any thoughts between matches on the new IDPA rules, or anything else relevant for my podcast, I'll have my mobile podcast studio with me, and I'm planning to stay at the range between matches.

You guys have fun and be safe. I couldn't get off work today...someone needs to have fun for me.

What a blast we had! Two matches, one day. Great job Amp Mangum ! Only one gun blew up on our squad, and the shooter lived to tell about it.

Fantastic match today. I LOVE the new rules, for the most part.

Wow. I'm having back spasms, leg cramps, and my feet are killing me...we must have had a great time yesterday!!!

So...any plans to do another one any time this year?

Yes. We talked about it last night, but haven't gotten far enough yet to set a date. Probably during Standard Time so we can finish up before midnight. LOL

Seems like everyone enjoyed it so much that we can't NOT do another one.

Wow,,This place is ony 25 minutes from the house. I have a buddie that goes to some matches every once in a while and ill probably go next time he goes. How do you practice for this stuff? A couple of the names I recognize,,,yall guys are pretty damn good.

Practice? IDPA stands for I Don't Practice Anymore! LOL

Seriously...safety first. You bring a safe attitude and we'll help take care of the rest.
  • Front sight, press
  • Shoot while moving
  • Find and use cover/concealment.

It was a great match, exploding guns aside... Totally down for the next one...

Take out the 40pts down from my kaboom and I would finish more like 5th...

You did a fine job on that one. I've never seen a 9mm that thoroughly trashed.

Thanks to trcubed and FlatFender for showing me how to hold a light, shoot, and reload in the dark, all without shooting myself. We also learned by my demonstration at the end of stage 4 that it is more optimal if you drop the loaded mag FIRST before showing clear and pulling the trigger.

Operating a weapon in the dark for the first time is just a wee bit different.

And thanks to bigfelipe for the hands-on demonstration of what a Glock does when it fires out of battery. Glad you survived the hand grenade and were able to keep shooting with the spare gun.

holy crap

Had a great time.....if I'd of had more ammo not from this batch I'd of stayed for the night version......looking forward to the next one.

Oh, and thanks to FlatFender for showing me his Streamlight mods that better facilitate one handed on/off syringe/cigar grip. I spent a little time in the shop with the file this afternoon and replicated his modifications. Works great!
