On-line sign up is brand new at H20. Unless they are planning to introduce on-line squadding and I don't know it yet, when you arrive and sign in at the range hut there will be a whiteboard right there on the wall with the names of typically six SO's at the top of six columns. Grab a marker, pick a squad, unless it's full. Squad 1 is usually full because a whole crowd of guys come together from Wilmington, but there will be 5 others to choose from.

I officially ran out of stage ideas two weeks ago, lol. I now "borrow" stages from other matches, and edit them to fit our bays and available props.

I think we used a couple of them Saturday, and I believe the rest were from the tactical library of our esteemed match director @Amp Mangum and experienced SO's.

I imagine that after a while it's difficult to come up with ideas for something different.

Putting a no-shoot directly behind steel?, now that wasn't such a good idea...:( The one piece of steel I didn't hit on 1st shot.
And just to be fair, I acknowledge that you used a full-size steel to make it EZ. :D

Id like to see more of that in IPDA...and many more no shoots on stages. If its supposed to be defensive minded with real world stages then costly misses are accurate. Idpa needs to scrap the rule of limiting the number of no shoots on a stage.

I ran Hackathorn's 1-5 drill cold as a stage today. Harder than it looks.
I "passed", but I sure didn't score an "A" on the test.

One of the best shooters at H20 hit that no shoot. It's hard to trip up the really good shooters. I am happy to report that the steel was big enough for me to hit it.

In addition to that treachery, we've been designing some stages so that (despite HQ's rules forbidding the requirement) you can advance or retreat while engaging a target while moving from one position of cover to the next after that discussion you and I had at H20, either uprange or downrange, as required. The shooter who can shoot on the move will have the advantage, but if a newer shooter doesn't want to they can move to cover first and engage from there without penalty.

It's the rules, with a nice workaround. ;)

Of all the dumb things the higher ups have done as far as rule changes in idpa goes, not allowing the requirement of moving in a stage is the dumbest. That one was stunningly stupid. So mych for getting off the X

Should be. Held second Saturday's, and fifth Saturdays for BUG matches (about four times a year).

    Thank you sir.
I have three vacation days left to get on the calender. Since my work is very good at preventing me from making it out to shoot matches
I'm gonna try to schedule these last three on Fridays that precede a match. :D

What do I need, equipment-wise, for the BUG match? Do I need mag carriers and holster just like a regular match?

Holster yes. Mag carriers optional. If you don't have mag carriers, you can put them behind your belt. Thats what i did.
Or a shallow pocket i suppose.

How many rounds/mags/speed loaders per stage, ballpark?

6 10 round stages so 2 mags minimum. 3 will give you room for error.
In BUG, mags only get loaded to 5.

I got permission to play from the wife, so I signed up.

SSP so... 10 rounds in the mag, no reloads in the open unless you're empty, no dropping mags if they still have ammo in them, use cover... that's about it for the IDPA specific stuff...?

You can reload in open if you’ve already engaged all targets you’re exposed to with required number of shots. I think I got that right. You are only penalized for dropping a loaded mag, or empty mag of a loaded gun if you dont pick up and stow the mag before the last shot of the stage.

What @fieldgrade said, plus a few other things. Start with 10 rounds in the mags, plus one in the chamber, so load 11 in the first mag - unless the stage requires a different loading parameter. Bring a holster and mag holder, if you have them. You'll need at least a holster that has a little retention and covers the trigger. Pockets work for extra mags, I think? You might need a cover garment, depending on whether the temperatures are right for using it - sometimes that requirement is waived in hot weather. Oh, and try to leave that recoil anticipation flinch at home. I have a really big (bad?) one and I don't like the competition!

He's shot IDPA before. He just got scarce for a little while. Oh, and he'll beat the snot out of both of us what with all that 40 days of dry fire practice and all.

Well, it was a nice refresher course anyway LOL. I have to keep my cover garment in the truck, along with extra ammo, or I'd be out of compliance and borrowing bullets each time.
