One of my sons and my nephew shot with me today. At the end of the match I was afraid that one or both of them might have outshot me.

I am happy to report that old age and treachery still beats youth and stamina.

Starting at noon thirty was nice.
At work Friday night I had absolutely no worries that I would be able to get home and get enough sleep before the match!!

Was another fun match to shoot.
I think y'all are good at bringing a different set of challenges to each match. Or presented in a different way or something.
Either way it helps push me to become a better shooter.
Thanks again guys.

I believe this is the first H20 match of the new year at the "summer hours". Register at 8 and shoot at 9

Oh well, gettin home at 3:40 shut me down.

I think I'll just keep my mouth shut from now on.
Every time I talk up a match or show some enthusiasm it backfires right in my face.

Can spectators just show up and watch the action? I'm interested in doing some competitions one day, and I'd like to see what one is like.

Yep. Just bring your eyes and ears. Shooting starts at 9AM till around lunch.

Bring your gun and gear, you'll regret not shooting the match.
I'm not advanced enough to do a match yet. I'm very slow and "deliberate," as BatteryOaksBilly says. LoL. I think I need to watch and learn first....but my gun(s)/gear go everywhere I go! And you never know what I might do....
(What gun is best for this? 9mm 1911, .45 1911, Sig p238, revolver? I already have a IDPA member number....)

If it was me I'd bring either of the 1911s. Sig P238 is really not ideal for a regular match, but fine for a BUG match.

You'd want to bring a holster, sturdy belt, and ideally four mags for whichever 1911 you decide on, and 150 rounds of ammo.

10 round mags for 9mm or 8 round for 45, ideally.

oh, and a 2 mag magpouch for your belt

You don't have to be "advanced" to shoot a match, slow and deliberate will be just fine.

9mm 1911 is a great choice and would put you in ESP (Enhanced Service Pistol) division and that is what I'd recommend you shooting for your first match.

Shooting matches is a great way to build your gun handling skills plus it's a lot of fun. You'll also meet some great folks.

Thanks for the info. I'll have 2 additional magazines for the 9mm soon, but do not yet have a pouch for them. I seem to shoot the 9mm best of all my guns, and enjoy it the most.
I'll probably just watch this time, and see what I can learn. Like I said, I'm very slow. Lol.

There will be anywhere from 5-20 shooters at every H20 match who've never shot a match before

Might be there as well...if I can find G43x mags. I haven't had a 2nd Saturday off yet this year...definitely miss H20.
I can loan you a couple for the match. I scared up a couple of G43x/48 mags on Ebay last week.

Now everybody's shooting for 2nd
I doubt that...all I've been shooting is the Shadow 2, and you can't shoot that in IDPA. I'm kinda out of practice with the carry guns. But I'll race you for 3rd. That's Earnhardt's number...sacred ground in Harnett county.

I can loan you 9mm 1911 mags for the match if you decide to shoot. I also have an extra magpouch. Just let me know so I remember to bring them.

Thanks, my mags should be here tomorrow. I highly doubt I'll be shooting this time, though. You know how I like to do a lot of research before doing something.....but I'll let you know about pouches in case I get a wild hair or something, which I might!
