If anyone needs a flashback, this is the best video I've seen a while of "what it's really like"

How the hell do you hit anything in that mess?

If you're lucky, from the air, with a missle, from a long way back.

Air support is a good thing. Just can't imagine trying to maintain any sort of coherent picture of the situation in that mess.

I see enough of that every night. I'll pass. It's been seven years and it still keeps me awake. Every time a chopper flies over the house, or a low flying jet. Not all of it was bad, I made some of the best friends I've ever had in some really shitty places! One of them lost his wife to cancer and we buried her today. He retired four years ago and now he doesn't know what he's going to do by himself. Funny world we live in.

Difficult situations make for strong bonds.

I don't have your issue, but have had family members that did, and I pray that it fades into the background for you. Also, prayers for your buddy, having made the sacrifices that I assume he did and come back only to lose his wife is probably as close as you can come to losing a child, it is patently unfair, unexplainable and unimaginable, but he still has a purpose and a reason to move forward everyday and I pray that he is able to find his way again in this world.
