IHC and WRA Service Grades available via CMP mail order again

Yikes!.. $1k for an IHC service grade. I know that's the market price, but it seems steep for a rifle where the only IHC part is likely to be the receiver. But... if you have to have a tractor gun that's the price you'll pay.

I was fortunate enough to buy an IHC M1 from a co-worker several years ago. I paid $1k for it, but when he delivered it turned out to be a USMC O-66 rebuild that had all the original DCM box and paperwork. The gun looks like it came right out of the arsenal...

I'm certainly glad I bought all my M1's from the CMP 15 years ago.

Last one I bought and ever will buy from CMP had new furniture and new bbl but did not run. They said they did not guarantee it would run and had no facility to repair it. A year later they were advertising full gun smithing services.

Wow... that's really stunning to hear jimmyjames. CMP has always been known for their customer service and I've never heard of them turning away a malfunctioning rifle that they sold. When I was up at the Nationals this year I had an *old* CMP M1 where the trigger didn't make weight. Walked right up to the armorer trailer and they took care of it on the spot, free of charge.

Just curious as to exactly what you mean " did not run". I'd say it's pretty rare for CMP to not take care of a customer who has a problem.

From CMP's web site-

"Each M1 Garand rifle sold by CMP is an authentic U.S. Government rifle that has been inspected, headspaced, repaired if necessary and test fired for function."

About 10 years ago. Clip would intermittently jump out of gun with rnds still in it. Intermittent jams.

With ever Garand I buy, I buy a spring kit. Clip coming out is clip release spring. Jams can be a host of things but mostly spring related.

I was having similar issues. Replaced the springs (the mag spring was a giant pain) and had to shim the mag floor plate. No more issues.

I bet replacing it was a pain, since they don't have a mag. :) haha. Just teasing.

Push down on the catch and take a small allen hex and push the pin out. Clean it and put few drops of oil on it and reverse order. If pin is bent it can be a pain as it will only go on one way.

They do have a magazine. It just needs a clip in order to work properly.

...........which are inserted into the magazine, according to FM 23-5 ( Basic Field Manual U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 ).

.
You and I both know what they are describing is the hole in the stock that the loaded griped by the clip sits in. Call it what you may.
