To start, I know this is an exercise in turd-polishing and any real gunsmithing would cost more than what I have in the gun. That said, I can't help but love it. I have alternatives (and typically use them tbh) but I slapped a 3x9x50 Monarch on this cheap .308 and it puts together some surprisingly tight groups with the cheapest factory ammo I can find.
The first time I cycled a round I knew I would have to fix the bolt... some 1200 grit and a Dremel to give just the slightest bevel to the bolt tooth running across the magazine made it cycle pretty nicely and not catch on the lip of cartridges. However, once the barrel is anything resembling warm, ejecting rounds gets pretty tough. Do y'all think I could trim the necks on handloads back 0.01" or is this just a "cheap barrel no make headspace" problem.
Again - I know the gun sucks. It's just like a bad relationship, I know in my heart I can fix it!
