I'm looking to put a set of iron sights on my AR9 build. This is mainly going to be used for Steel Challenge matches. I'm thinking I'll order a set of sights and replace the front post with a fiber insert. For the rear I want the largest peep/aperture I can get.

Any suggestions on which set, or rear I should be looking at? So far from pictures, I think the Troy has the largest rear opening around. But I don't see any data that backs that up.

My M&P 15X came with stock Troy sights and they work well.

I have Troy folding, Troy micros, Magpul mbus, LMT fixed, Aero foldings, and Diamond Head ISS. I'd drop the $88 for a set of the Aeros. I have them on both the 4.5" barreled and 8.5" barreled uppers for my AR9. Schuyler has them for $88 plus shipping. However I also forgot how much I like the first gen MBUS.

Edit. Is it a 16" barreled upper?

Yep - going on a 16". I think it's a 15" rail.

On my CZ Scorpion I have the Troy HK style front sight that I replaced the post with a Legionnaire sight post from Average Guy Solutions. For the rear I'm running a Daniel Defense A1.5 I've found this combo to be super fast and accurate!

I believe the largest rear aperture available for an AR-15 style site is made by XS Site Systems. I have one if you want me to measure it.

Thanks for the info! How do the XS sights work? Do you buy a normal rear sight (troy, magpul, etc) and replace it with the XS aperture?

Correct the XS Sight aperture replaces the standard A1 or A2 aperture. You will need to dis-assemble the rear sight to install it.

Standard A2 aperture = 0.065 & 0.200
XS aperture = 0.100 & 0.230

I am not running the XS aperture on the CZ but on a Colt A2 HBAR 20" with a Hoplite front post also from Average Guy Solutions.

The standard A2 aperture on most rear site marries perfectly with the circular shape of the HK style front; ie make the circles overlap each other, then it's just put the target in the semi-circle, pyramid on target, and pull the trigger.

For more precision shots utilize the point of the pyramid .

Awesome. Thanks for that! Think that's the route I'll end up going. Love the XS rear on my 10/22 already.

Yeah 0.030" doesn't sound like much but once you compare them side by side, the size difference becomes very obvious.

I compared all of mine, and the Aero's are pretty much the same size as the Troy, LMT, and MBUS, so I'd get a set of those for under $100 shipped.
