is it legal to hunt big game[deer/bear]with iluminated recticals in North Carolina???

Can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be legal. It’s not a light source illuminating a game animal.

Can you provide their text from that section?
I'm guessing you can't use any projected light. A red dot or illuminated reticle should be fine.

it is unlawful to use artificial lights(including lasers) that's the exact words from general hunting regulations

The intent of the law is to keep you from "freezing" deer by shining lights at them ("deer in headlights") as a hunting strategy. Nothing to do with an illuminated reticle.

Artificial lights IE: flashlights, spot lights, lasers, etc... Illuminated reticles are fine.

Yes it's legal.

I used to teach Hunter's Ed this question came up more than once....

As others have said, as long as there is no light source or laser projected toward the animal you are good.

I'll give you a specific example, this is a question I personally posed to the enforcement division years ago.

At the time I had a fiber optic sight on my bow, that used a small, external led mounted sideways, projecting light into the sight, not toward the animal. It was a removable device. I asked about it's legality and showed it to the game wardens I was teaching with that day. They both agreed no issue because it illuminated the sight and not the animal.
