Over the weekend the neighbors across the street had grandkids over and they were in the front yard playing with laser pointers for a couple of hours. They weren't pointing them into windows but were on the outside of most homes in the area.
I noticed yesterday when running through my security cameras that the one closest to where they were is suddenly not working. There are 2 that monitor the front of the house and the other one is fine. I can see where the kids lasers swept across the eastern camera but the west camera is dead.
Is it possible that the kids shined their laser directly into the camera lens and "disabled" or cooked it somehow??

West camera is dead??

Time to strike!

You'd still be on 2 other cameras.......

This isn't a case of diminished performance, that sucker is DEAD..... I plan to pull it down today, I have a spare replacement....
The laser pointers the kids were playing with appeared to be of the office supply variety, nothing professional or very powerful.

I assume this was an accident? Anyway maybe there is some kind of miniature sun-shade looking thing you can get to prevent in the future?

I'm sure it was by accident. These kids were 6/7 or so and doubt they had nefarious intentions. They were shining them all over the trees, cars, anything it would show up on. Probably just happen to hit the camera at just the right angle. I wanted to take my new TLR 2 HL G (green laser) out and play with them but stick in the mud wife wouldn't let me.....

What's the point of owning all those shotguns if you don't use them to defend your castle from vandalism? Next time send those kids home with birdshot in their butts! :p

You have to get permission from the wife to go out and play?

If the camera has no picture at all it was no laser pointer. Plus they would have had to hold it on there to do any damage. You might water board them and see if they, spill the beans, so to speak.

Oh she would let me go out and play with the other kids, just not take my green laser!!

Shoot man, they just kids, not really doing any harm just playing outside WITHOUT any cell phones involved. Remember when as a kid you had to be home by a certain time, eat dinner and then maybe you could go play a little longer IF you promise to stay in the yard...... I know I do....

I know the corn farmer on the other side of the woods we played in would take shots at us if we took one step near his corn. I figured you were that guy. :D

I'm guessing that camera didn't have the little overload filter thing you remove to make them night vision capable on the cheap.
