What is the difference between the M442 and the M&P Bodyguard 38 special revolver? I have a M442 and like it, and am considering purchasing another while firearms are priced attractively. I noticed that the Bodyguard 38 special is priced lower. Wondering what the difference is? Thanks in advance for any input!!!

short answer is 642/442 have aluminum frames while the new model BodyGuard is polymer.

The 442/642 is better in my opinion and I have owned both at one time or another

Interestingly, I have also owned both the .38 Bodyguard and a PC 642. The Bodyguard had (has!) a noticeably better DA trigger, and I shot it better; not to mention it's lighter to carry. I still have the Bodyguard but not the 642. Go figure. I imagine the difference is down to production variations.

I wear it a lot in a ā€œClingerā€ AIWB Kydex rig when Iā€™m at the forge and canā€™t help but sweat all over it. No worries about surface rust yet with the polymer. Itā€™s so light and comfortable that I forget that I have it on most days so itā€™s a solid summer carry piece.

@Combat Diver is correct it has a different latch to release the cylinder. You also can get the Bodyguard revolver without a laser too I believe.

I had both a Bodyguard 38 as well as a 442.

I sold the 442 and kept the Bodyguard, lighter but felt more shootable to me. Also as a lefty, the top latch is easier for me to operate.
Mine has the laser which is push button activated, being left handed I've found I can activate it with my thumb when I am getting a grip on the gun during the draw.
