Jalapeño

You know, everybody I know pronounces jalapenos wrong.

It’s Ja-lop'...(like jalopy) pee - nose

Repeat after me,.

Now, every time you visit family, or friends, or go out to eat, say “ja-LOP-pee-nose"

They will wonder why they have been saying it wrong for so long.

Be the ugly American.

ja LOP pee nose

Agreed.

I go out of my way to pronounce Yacht as Yat-chet for the same reason.

It is hilarious when we have guests and someone runs across a really hot one.

I remember one time a lady insisted that she didn’t like spicy things but after a bit of a dare tried one.
It was mild, she she really like them, and couldn’t stop eating them — until she hit pay dirt.
The next 15 minutes was epic….

There has not been a single mild jalapeno grown here. Every blame one of them we've grown has been supercharged and I have no idea why.

Are you growing them alongside cayennes?

If you're not, you should. If you are, you shouldn't.

See if that helps.

I love hot peppers and have tried a bunch of them.. but through the sampling, jalapeños are the true wildcard of the bunch. In my experience their heat levels have seemed to range from bell pepper’ish to habanero like.
