Juneteenth?

EddieMurphy_SNL_BlackJeopardy.jpg

I saw a sign when I was working FOCO EMS years ago on a street, Juneteenth Avenue, down near 5th street, WTH is a "Juneteenth"? I thought it was a misspelling. So I Googled it. Wasnt a big deal til this year.

juneteenth never heard of it. And being military brat and serving 21 years I have been or lived in 49 of 50 states. So what are the talking about?

I guess I have to look it up.

Now let me get this straight. Lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation January 1, 1863,

So Congress and a president do a proclamation in 1863 against 13 states that currently ARE NOT part of the union and they are currently at war with. The war didn't official end until August 1866.

But because of Washington D.C. bureaucracy, and politicians, couldn't get the official information into the confederacy and Texas until June 19, 1865.

Now modern day Liberals and whiners want me to shed tears, get fluffy over something I had no control of.
I come from a long line of poor farmers, coal miners mostly from the northern, and northwestern states who couldn't afford a meal most days. A good hunting rifle was far more important to them. Slaves were something you might have heard about in town, it was something about that RICH people back east were arguing, and fighting about.

And now they want a holiday over something that happened over 150 years ago, because they didn't get the word. We should celebrate another short coming by our government? They pass the law but didn't consider how to get the word out.

Hey Snowflakes, they didn't have cellphones, telephones, cars or airplanes. Pony express was gone, telegraph was there if it wasn't cut because of the war and trains weren't moving between north and south, so how in the hell were they suppose to get the word out?

History, watch the dates.

President Lincoln justified the Emancipation Proclamation as a war measure intended to cripple the Confederacy. Being careful to respect the limits of his authority, Lincoln applied the Emancipation Proclamation **ONLY** to the Southern states in rebellion.

Texas gets the word June 19, 1865.

The 13th amendment, which formally abolished slavery in the United States, passed the Senate on April 8, 1864, and the House on January 31, 1865. On February 1, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln approved the Joint Resolution of Congress submitting the proposed amendment to the state legislatures. The necessary number of states ratified it by December 6, 1865. The 13th amendment to the United States Constitution provides that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
"

On April 9, 1865, General Robert E. Lee surrendered his Confederate troops to the Union’s Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, marking the beginning of the end of the grinding four-year-long American Civil War. But it would be more than 16 months before President Andrew Johnson would declare a formal end to the conflict in August 1866.

So the 13th was ratified on 6Dec65, several months after the fellow got to Texas to tell them about the EP that only applied to the former states in rebellion and not to the states still in the Union and several months before the conflict officially ended causing the Union to be reunited. The EP really did not set anyone free at all since the South was a foreign country at that time and the EP did not apply to the North. You would think a more appropriate time to celebrate would be August 1866.

Were the states that left the Union considered to be part of the Union again before August 1866? If not, the 13th would not apply to them until they reentered the Union.

I never heard of Juneteenth before this week and think it is a stupid name.

For those arguing the “date” and dismissing things because June 19th really isn’t “the day”....

Y’all know Christ wasn’t actually born Dec 25th right? That date was co-opted by the early Church to counter some popular pagan rituals.

July 4th doesn’t count because those damned colonists were just rebels and traitors to their rightful government. Why not celebrate when they actually WON their independence? Stupid idea, celebrating the 4th.

We could go on and on pointing out how arbitrary any specific date is for a remembrance.

The worth of Christmas and Independence Day are in the meaning and values they represent, not the date on the calendar.

Arguing against commemorating the end of slavery is a special kind of ignorant. The fact that it’s taken our nation 155 years to make it “mainstream” is pretty much spot on example of institutional racism.

Now some of y’all are going to stretch things to think I support riots and mayhem, etc. or that I’m some kind of leftist. I don’t and I’m not. But I’m honest enough to acknowledge that our society is broken - in many many ways - and that we as a country HAVE undeniably disregarded most anything that is not white Anglo-Saxon Christian oriented. If we are to be a nation of “wretched refuse yearning to be free”, a melting pot, a society where merit matters more than pedigree...then we must be willing to allow all sections of society to feel welcome, included and wanted.

A lot of white folks got here because things weren’t so good where they were. My French ancestors got run out of France for being the wrong brand of Christians. Scots Irish? Things were just better here for them. Georgia? Started as a penal colony. Irish? Treated like the first white trash.

Banjo music that us pasty white southerners love? Came from Africa via slaves, and made it’s way into the hills, as well as fiddle music from the Irish. Voila’!, a whole new genre of music on the planet.

Just like slavery, and the end of it. None of us here participated in that.

nobody reading this died in battle, so why celebrate Memorial Day?

If having “been there” is the requirement, we really wouldn’t have many BBQs and would get out of a lot more mandatory family get togethers.

We don’t have to agree on this.

My point is, everything has become BLM, and anything but has become racist, and I for one am damn tired of it.

Jesus, who would've thought a day celebrating the end of slavery in the USA would ruffle so many feathers? Don't like it? Don't celebrate it.

Because we got called out for having never heard of it. And it’s not like most of us don't read the news.

Yer on your own skipper.
I work with some of the most SJW MFers on NC. Some were bragging during meetings about having to take PTO because they were so exhausted from protesting. Nevertheless, I haven't had any quiz me on Juneteenth. I'm not following how this holiday (whether it's one people choose to celebrate or not) is getting people so upset. It's not celebrating a dictator's birthday; it's celebrating the end of slavery. Are people being forced to use PTO to take the day off? Did the Juneteenth parades block your daily commute?

ALL WE SAID IS WE NEVER HEARD OF IT, AND WE GOT A LECTURE.

I’m done here.

Peace be upon you and your household.

heaven knows we need it.

Never heard of it before today.
I dont hate it, it doesnt bother me, doesnt change my day at all.
But I do find it interesting to just now get national coverage after 150 years...

You obviously misunderstand what is ruffling feathers.

I had never heard of "Juneteenth" until the media started ballyhooing it as an excuse to try to stop a Trump rally.

Whoever wants to celebrate the anniversary of Texas getting word about the end of slavery can have at it with my blessing.

But don't expect me to meekly bow down and praise those who want to create a government holiday to force their preferences on me.

Ironically, I think Trump informed more people about Juneteenth than anyone else could've.

Do you honestly think people are upset about celebrating the end of slavery or the endless pantomiming of oh-so-woke BS pandering?

Ran into an ex the other day (she's black, since that's germane to the story) and she told me she missed the old days when white folk simply spoke to her like a normal person instead of saying silly patronizing crap to her like "your life matters" and "I'm sorry for my privilege". How full of our own hubris do we have to be to speak to people like that? How do you think an intelligent, sane black person feels when they see all of this fake assed, virtue signaling nonsense?

A black man made a movie called "Get Out" that is extremely pertinent to this experience, and it essentially about seeing down to the racist core of shallow Richards and Karens patting them on the head and telling them they would love to vote for Obama one more time, and they once tipped a black waitress 25%. It's one of my college professors leaning into my black lab partner to tell him the college has an open computer lab since his obviously disadvantaged black ass wouldn't have access to a computer out in the ghetto. Bowing down and washing a black person's feet to display your wokeness is the equivalent to telling your toddler they get to choose what's for dinner tonight. It's high-handed WASPY racism of the most disgusting order. People need to shut hell up and stop treating black people like a struggling eight grader that just won a 4th grade spelling bee. Life is simple: treat people okay, don't whine needlessly about your struggle, work harder to better yourself, remember nobody owes you a damn thing, and don't make yourself a victim of your own circumstance.

When is the holiday that commemorates the death of common sense, common decency, shutting your mouth and doing your job?

These are good points.
suddenly this is very important, even though it has been ignored for a long time. Can't help but think there's some agenda here.

For somebody who wasn't ignoring it... try listening to BlackManWithAGun #574

He was challenged for having scheduled a rally on that date.

I’ve had just enough scotch. Where are you from? It ain't Holly Springs.

Same way anybody else would feel - like the woke are reducing them to one superficial feature and ignoring all their accomplishments and like they are once again being "judged by the color of their skin, [not] by the content of their character" (MLK), but for their own good, because they can't decide for themselves how they want to be judged.?

I'm still hung up on people thanking me for working in an essential health-care-related industry - don't thank me for trying to pay my bills when other people are falling behind on their mortgages and don't have money for groceries...

I guess there wasn’t room in the budget for Bagels, Lox & Cream Cheese.

"I don't understand Gary, when I read that Forbes article Patronizing The Blacks: A Guide For The Modern Slavemasters Of Corporate America, it said they would love this sh**. Quick, flush all those packages of Newports we were going give them when they left their shift tonight."

Read the room, Bezos.

1) There is no such thing as racism, humans are one race with profound tribal and cultural differences.

2) This country was founded by Anglo-Saxons so why should we give a damn what other tribes think, want or believe. Don't like it, go back to where you came from.
3) We are not now, never have been, and never will be a melting pot. Nations are a people with a common culture and tribal identity, which cannot be magically transferred by crossing a border.
4) diversity + proximity = war
5) The only equality we can find in this fallen world is through Christ the Lord, but even he commanded us to spread the word to the world, not bring the world home with us.
6) No one in America is lacking opportunity, regardless of skin tone, education, sex, etc. It's there for the taking, mostly a matter of perseverance.

I see a lot of white people hanging a statue
Yep. White folks did that. The same white folks that tell me I need to check my privilege even though I get my sore ass up and go to work every day.

Why does no one ever talk about Native Americans getting a national holiday, or designated month in their honor?
Them. Asians. Latinos.
But BLACK lives matter...

(again, not anti-black, just that ALL should matter equally. "Not by the color of your skin but the content of your character")

All of this crap is straight Marxism and related to Mao's removal of the "4 olds". I think there has recently been a fifth added.....#5 Old White Ways and stuff.
Im a thinkin they are coming for more soon. #ClownWorldMatters
