Says they made it originally the help with disabled shooters (left handed) to try to get gas out of their face. They noticed it was quieter for the shooter as an unintended side effect when they were testing it. Allegedly the gas venting into the magazine has negligible increases in debris compared to the chamber blowback and only increased ammunition temps by about 2 degrees.
