The school district must have a lawsuit payout account that needs some room freed up in it

Without knowing more of the actual story I can definitely understand the charges and believe this is more click bait than anything.

Completely agree. Arresting 12 year olds for finger guns is totally understandable.

It wasn't the finger gun but the actual threat. We have to take it from an "anonymous" person with what was said. This isn't the same as the kindergartener that ate his pop tart to look like a gun or even kids playing cops and robbers. I think they got it right to charge it as a threat.

Communicating threats is a crime. So I'm not seeing your point. Last I checked there have been kids and adults arrested for threats long before this incident. My point is I'm not gonna be part of the group think people that gets all up in arms simply because a "finger gun" was used.

We are obviously missing a lot of context, however given the age, environment,w and little context we do have, I have a hard time believing it was a real threat. Given how out of control, detached from reality, and hysterical schools have gotten I likewise have trouble seeing this as a threat. Regular old discipline that worked for hundreds of years has given way to a legal system.

Im totally agreeing with you. When 12 year olds point their shooty fingers at people they should be handcuffed and taken downtown and thrown in the clink.

Not what I'm saying that at all. But I'm not going to take the word of an anonymous person that says that's what it was about. I will say that I think you are seeing an over reaction to things such as the parkland shooter that was rarely disciplined for his behavior. A 12 year old should know better, I know my 11 year old knows better.

If you aren't going to make a judgement that it was an overreaction based on that person's account, then you shouldn't make a judgement that it was a good call either. Just seems that many people have similar conversations. Many people here would be arrested for things they said if everyone was treated this way by the thought police.

they should also call SWAT, lockdown the premises and at the very least deploy tasers to make sure the “finger-arm” didn’t accidentally discharge.

I didn't say it was a good call? I said I think they got the charge right. There is a huge difference in those two things. But you see I could take a valid juvenile situation and have a parent that is pissed off tell a story to the media a great story. The facts however are sealed in juvenile court with a no win situation for anyone but the one sided story being released. So you see how it can be spun in any direction without actual facts.

Yup...and believe it or not "I am going to whip your A$$" never actually included a whip nor contact to the buttocks. Noses, cheets, fo'head...yeah...but never butt.

I am sorry you didn't have a good childhood. You never pointed a finger gun at someone and then in your own mouth to shoot yourself when you had that one substitute teacher that spoke like charlie browns teacher?

Based on what little information we have, wasn't this in response to a question rather than a self initiated threat?

RS's cousin drives a school bus. Yesterday he said he had a kid using his Finger Gun on the bus. He told him to sit down and behave. The kid's reaction was to shout "Hey, he's got a gun!" Off the bus for the remainder of the year.

Seems to me that if this is a valid charge, she should also be reported based on red flag laws, right? Given that she's such a threat, they should probably search the house to make sure there aren't any firearms she might be able to get her hands on, and remove them so that she can't use them.

Wow, if my younger self was in school today I’d be locked up for life, I never really picked fights with anyone but if someone gave me grief I’d do much worse then issue a threat, I can’t count how many times I clobbered someone for being aggressive to me or my friends.

And yet, no "charges at this time" for boarding an airplane illicitly (no ID, no boarding pass); causing delays and general mayhem; and one only knows at what cost to the airline and hence to the paying public.

Of course it was in Overland Park. Would not have been even brought up in western Kansas. This is laughable. There was no threat. Damn school girls always creating attention seeking drama. Communicating threats- bullshit. With three daughters I have been thru hell with envious classmates. My god the future is bleak for schools. @Cowboy considering your job and what I have seen from you guys I fear for people’s futures. You administer charges for that you need to vote for Warren or Beto.

If they arrested every school-age kid for communicating threats, 90% of all school-age kids would be arrested and sitting in juvie.

How many times as a kid did you hear from another one, "I'm going to kill you."?

I think that's exactly the point. They don't have a zero tolerance policy. They have navigated multiple other situations without charges yet this one they felt like was unlike the others.

Johnson County IS the Cary of the great KC metro area, at least on the KS side. Would never have happened in LV, AT, or JF counties. DG County has gone off the deep end though & in WYCO, it would've been a real gun vs. 'gun fingers'.

I’m heading to Kansas around the November 7th date. I’ll make sure when I pass thru not to use any fingers. I’m going to Fort Riley. I know for sure I will not give any indication of a threat there. Doubt many will have a gun but they do have big artillery which is wicked.
