Kayaks for Fluffy Folk

I’ve had several different kayaks over the years, everything from the $250 Dunham’s special to my current Hobie. I only use sit on top because I fish in mine. I would look for around 12’ or more in length with an actual seat and not just a cushion or backrest. The seats make a world of difference in comfort. I’ve had several 8+ hour trips in my previous big rig and current Hobie with no comfort issues. With previous boats I couldn’t go more than two hours at a time. Get outdoors and great outdoor provision company in Greensboro both offer rental boats. Great outdoor provision also has other locations around the state. Both places have good knowledgeable staff that have always been helpful for me.

Cape Fear, below Buckhorn Dam. It is kayak territory for sure!
I've been above the dam, but not below. I've also dropped in up river off of... hwy 42 on the other side of Corinth.

An older pic of mine. I've made a few changes. I need to get this thing back out on the water, it's been too long.

For you fluffy guys. I added another seat to the front and take my wife with me on occasion. That puts the weight at nearly 400 lbs with equipment and the two of us. The boat handles it just fine.

I'm 175, she is probably 140-150 (I'm not asking her....), trolling motor battery, fishing stuff etc.

Got no intentions of getting rid of it. Tracks ans floats very well. Good for fishing as well.
If I was ever gonna get a sit inside it would be a commander.

The Wilderness Systems Tsunami line covers several different lengths and the ones that end in 0 (120, 160, etc.) have normal, narrow cockpits but the ones that end in 5 (125, 165, etc.) have large wide cockpits for bigger folks. They are great touring boats, not very tippy but still fast enough to keep up with the pack. I've had a 145 and a 165. They hold enough gear for a week long expedition, BTDT. There is also the WS Pongo that has an enormous cockpit, can fit your dog too and still is relatively fast.

Having said that I'd seriously consider a WS Tarpon sit on top, they are just so easy to remount if you capsize and it so nice to have the freedom of movement to swing your legs over the side when resting.

I've got a Feel Free Lure 10 v2 that is great. Getting my wife a FF Moken in a couple weeks when it comes in. FYI, kayaks are crazy popular right now. Even used ones are hard to find around here. Jackson is not producing any more until the 2021's come out. Another company I can't remember off hand. And Feel Free is behind and all the ones locally are sold before delivery. So, good luck finding one too.

I've got a Perception Pescador 10 pro I have been very happy with so far. 375 # capacity paddles straight and smooth.
And if you wanted a little bigger boat, they make a pro 12 also.
