I thought there was a thread on this, but might've been on the Canuck forum. Do you guys keep a copy of the tax stamp form with the SBR? Maybe miniaturized photocopy stuffed into the pistol grip or storage compartment of the stock? Or just keep in the rifle bag?

I have two suppressor tax stamps, copied them on one double sided sheet, not laminated.
I keep one with each item, in each range bag and rifle bag and also copy in my car.
I also have the originals copied to google doc with my trust.

I started out trying to make reduced copies and store them in the grip. Not a bad option for some SBRs, but doesn't work well for my SBSs or AOW and is impossible with cans.

I have a folder in the range bag with B&W copies of page 1 of each form...printed full size but two different stamps printed front/back on a single sheet. I also have copies of page 1 of each one in PDF format in an iBooks app (which is available offline).

I've carried them all over the place...and never been asked to show them. Only time they come out is for educational purposes at the gun show or at a range.

There's no legal requirement to be able to provide them on the spot. You just have to decide if you want to play by the rules when a range decides they want to see them, or tell them what you think of their policy and walk out.

And if you want to nitpick the details, color copies (of revenue stamps) are illegal.

Has the ATF said anything about color photos/scans (like one might keep on a phone)?
Not that I've ever seen. The secret service is who says color copies of revenue stamps is a no-go.

I keep a folder full of prints. 2 for each NFA device just cause it was easy to do so.

I have them available in electronic format on google drive, but would never hand my phone over to an officer to display for inspection.

Does the possessor of an NFA firearm have to show proof of registration?

Yes. The approved application received from ATF serves as evidence of registration of the NFA firearm.
This document must be made available upon request of any ATF officer.

It is suggested that a photocopy of the approved application be carried by the possessor when the weapon is being transported.

I was asked if I had my papers at a range in TN this past weekend. First time. Didn't ask to see them just ask if I had them. I keep a copy of mine in my range bag, one in the truck, one in the Jeep, one with each gun and suppressor, and one on my phone.

I generally keep a full set in my boxers at all times so if I ever get asked they'll be all good and ready.

Mine are saved to my phone now. They come by email. Why would I have a paper copy?
Because if you want to get completely technical about it, based on the regulations, digital stamps may not actually be legal. Let that sink in....

(And I'm serious about that being a thing...but not as an actual reason as to why most people print them out)

Well I don't technically have to have it on me either...

Printing them....?

I don't always have my phone but I always have a rifle.

Huh? I can't remember the last time I was armed and didn't have my phone... My phone crapped out on me in Cuba but I couldn't bring an AR anyway...

The stamp is receipt for the tax you paid.
Printed copy is good to keep in safe should cloud or phone technology fail for one reason or another.

I have to show my stamp letter at my indoor range, the just look at the PDF to verify the s/n matches the suppressor.

You're probably safe. Technology never fails, especially not when you need it most.

If you're more likely to have your phone on you, that's fine. I just don't see the harm in having a backup

Especially since that's the form many of them come in....

No harm at all. Can't imagine a stamp related emergency though...

I keep a 3-ring binder in my range bag with full size copies this way I'm covered with whatever I decide to bring to the range.

Must be a giant binder, lol.

I keep two reduced copies in my wallet, along with a picture of me naked, just as sort of a gift for whomever thinks they need to see this information.

I haven't bought anything NFA because I don't want to get a new binder. :D

The down side to keeping a copy on your phone, is that once you hand the phone over to law enforcement, they can search the entire phone. I have nothing to really hide, but I don't want somebody looking through my phone with out warrant.

Better be frontal spread. If you are going to do something, do it right

I do the laminated miniature copy in my range bag. The copies are roughly 1/4 size, front and back, laminated, and stored in my range bag at all times. Costs like $1.50 to do it at kinkos.

With a suppressed AR SBR I keep laminated shrunken copies in my stock's battery storage tubes.
