We were told on Thursday that that was the last day of business. 45 people looking for work. It's a longer story as to what led up to the immediate closing, but that's for another day. A few key people (me included) were asked if we would stay on and finish up the work that was already in house and jobs that were approved to get them out the door. No severance, nothing. I will get payed for the work I continue to do for maybe the next week or two, and I'll get payed for 16 days of PTO. It's a super sad time to see that place shut the doors, as I've got 20 years in that place. Anyway, it really sucks when both people in the household work at the same place, lol.

Hope y'all land on your feet soon.

My wife and I worked for the same company for a decade. This was my nightmare. I left that company in 2015. My wife is still there.
I worked with my wife for about ten years. Wasn’t good for the marriage. I had to retire from that.

@Stick Man Godspeed on the job search. I expect there are a lot of people who like you and that’s half the battle when an employer has to decide if they’d like to spend 8-10 hours a day with you.

Wow, Shane, sorry to hear that. But, knowing you, you'll bounce back quickly.

So sorry to hear that. Maybe it's time to pivot and open your own business?

Man, that sucks. For what little it’s worth, you have my thoughts being sent your way for a positive turn around from this.

That sucks big time. Hope you and yours land on your feet 🙏🏻

Well that sucks.

Start looking ay health insurance ASAP.When a company goes poof I don’t think COBRA is an option.

I’d only work the next couple weeks if it contributed to a successful job search.

I am so sorry, especially that it hit you both, and with so little warning. Prayers sent for a smooth transition into a new career that is satisfying and pays the bills!

I hate to hear this has happened to yall
Please let us know if you need anything at all

I'm sorry to hear this, Stick Man. Remember, these types of things cause us to grow. When comfortable, we become complacent and stagnant. Sometimes, it takes a sizeable life-changing event to get us to find something better. Prayers for you and your family.

Mentions the WARN Act.

Looks like it requires the company to have at least 100 employees to count, so it depends on the size of the company. If the company was only 45 people, it isn't covered.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the thoughts and prayers sent. We knew things were rough, and the owners had a plan to downsize some and try and save it. That whole thing went belly up as of this past Monday afternoon. We both have been loosely looking, but had no clue it would happen this fast.

I believe Kelly has very good chance of landing a job about 3 miles from our house, and should find out this coming week. She has done the phone and in person interview, and they called Thursday to check her references. I have a couple things in the wings that I'm working on, so I believe it's just a matter of time that one works out. Thankfully, we both have been smart with money, and can survive a little lull if need be and be ok. But, it's still a scary deal nonetheless, lol.
Thanks again everyone.

They say a lay off, firing, closing, whatever happens to everyone at some point. Happened to me and to my wife at different times. When I got shown the door after 20 yrs, I picked up some consulting gigs from the most unlikely of places, my old bosses boss who I could not stand but had gotten fired before I got laid off. I eventually found full time work again after 18mos of looking. My wife quit her job, went back to school working towards an MBA. That never happened but she worked gratis for a charity and that turned into a part time job that paid with another charity. Sometimes when one door closes another one opens. Good luck to you both.

I’m sorry to hear that friend. Been down this road myself a couple of times and it’s always unnerving. I hope that you and your wife are able to recover quickly and find a better job soon.

If there is anything I understand from the past, it is the fear when the job goes away. Wish you the best. Sincerely.
