Ken Hackathorn-Larry Vickers Advanced Handgun

Anna's Pizza in downtown Apex has good pizza and Italian food. Small place, but they have an upstairs room that can hold a good sized group.

Salem Street Pub downtown has good burgers, sandwiches and bar food.

Lucky 32 is very good. Good call Fieldgrade.

Peak City Grill in downtown Apex is good if you want higher end and spendy. They have private rooms you could reserve also.

Over in Beaver Creek Commons there is a Mike's B'cue. Not my personal favorite, but a lot of people really like it. They do have lots of beers.

We're eating dinner Saturday night at Apex Wings because as soon as we're done we're headed back to Woody's for the low light segment of the class.

Some Shearon Harris wings ought to get you all ready for some action. Wouldn't want to be standing behind any of you guys!

Bought a new rain parka this week after discovering at a match last year that my "rain repellant" parka repels light rain for about twenty minutes, then just gets wet.

yes

but I wanted my butt covered

That is the problem with most rain gear. In order to keep you dry it needs to over lap. Jacket needs to go below the top of the pants. I would rather it be cold and dry then wet and cool like it looks like it is going to be.

you're slipping. I expected a "yes, but my draw is so slow nobody can tell the difference"
I can shoot fast, or I can shoot accurate. But only one of the two. It’s my understanding that much attention will be paid to accuracy this weekend.

Do you want that food fast or fresh cause you are not going to get both. LOL

When should we arrive at woody's?
Yeah, what's the schedule. Vickers website doesn't list anything. I don't want to assume it starts at 8am like most classes but right now that's all I have to go on.

I just remember an email went out on Feb 2nd.

Please plan on being at the range and ready to go by 08:30.

The weather forecast is looking good as of now but we are in NC so that can change. Be prepared.

Please bring:

  • Eye & Ear protection (electronic hearing protection is strongly recommended)
  • Serviceable handgun of at least 9mm Para caliber
  • Serviceable holster-No Serpas unless it is a duty holster issued to you
  • Minimum 1 double magazine pouch
  • Minimum of 3 serviceable magazines (5 is better)
  • 1200 rounds of ammo for two days
  • Suitable range wear depending on the season
  • Good attitude
  • Hand held flashlight and spare batteries.
Bring some duty/carry ammo so you can shoot a few rounds at night to check the muzzle flash.

A spare gun if you have one in case your primary goes down.

Water/drinks/snacks

We have a room reserved at Apex Wings https://apexwings.com/ for dinner Saturday afternoon so we can get in, eat and get back to the range for the low light portion.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all there,

Amp

Latest forecast says 80% of .16 inch of rain.

...a .16" of rain

I think I won't drown in that.

Where are guys grabbing breakfast in the morning

I'm eating at the house, but there's a McDonalds right at your hotel, and a Bojangles maybe a 1/2 mile down the road (55/ Williams Street) headed south away from Apex. I think there's also a Waffle House before you get to the Bojangles.

I realize a man of your culinary skills and talents might seek better. ;)
I'm such a commoner when it comes to food.

The Macdonalds is conjoined with a gas station right at the US1 / 55 interchange. You can walk there. FYI, the hotel is not really visible from the street either. It's down a hill behind trees and restaurants.

For those who haven't been to Woody's, look for the green "Woodland Road" sign on Old US 1. I recall that is the only signage to tell you where to turn onto the gravel road that takes you to the range.

It's just your standard green metal street sign that you can't really see till you're on top of it in the curve, going too fast to stop. Lol.

This is comical. Intellicast has us at 80% chance of .09" of rain tomorrow, then .06" Saturday night, then clearing for Sunday.

.06". That's six one hundredths of an inch. I call that "fog".

Prepare yourself for a step back in time. To the beginning of IPSC...to the beginning of the Modern Principle. Not to sound too "fanboy", but Hackathorn is one of the last of a dying breed. Watch him closely for the smoothness that only 50+ years of drawing, firing, and recovering can give. Have big fun, you are entering the Twilight of Shooting. I can't wait to see your reports. Billy....3 time Hackathorn graduate. The last time there were only 4 of us. 72 hours of entertainment.

Still packing the rain gear and hoping I don't have to use it.

Getting real, gear is packed and sitting ready to load in the AM. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but with rain gear, a spare pistol, a spare holster, spare flashlight, spare batteries.... I'll probably fall in a hole and twist an ankle or something.

His numbered mags alone are probably worth thousands.
Ill give you a few. Just let me know if you which color baseplates you wanted…. OD, Mauve, Country Blue, Celedon, Sunburst Yellow….I think I may a missed a few colors he has.
