So 2 weeks ago the spring broke in my Kershaw Blur. Last Sunday I go to their website, see lifetime warranty and go to the customer support section to order a new spring. It arrived Friday, no charge, that's pretty good customer service.

Today I replaced the spring, Kershaw actually calls a torsion bar which is probably the proper term based on the design. I'll post a few pics just so you will know what's inside one of their knives in case you've never had one apart. This is not a repair tutorial, there's plenty of those on YouTube.

First, here's the broken torsion bar along side the new one.

Here's everything all apart. It's dirty, haven't cleaned anything up yet.

The torsion bar sits in one side of the handle in the recess with the grease in it. The grease is as much to keep the torsion bar from rattling as it is for lube. The flat plate goes over the recess where the grease is.

All back together. I used a Kershaw tool I picked up at the Smoky Mtn Knife Works last fall, $8.00. It has an assortment of bits that are stored in the handle under a removable threaded cap and are held in the working end of the tool by a magnet.

You can over tighten the pivot screw. You can tune the opening resistance using the screw.

I've had this knife 4-5 years now, bought it from Gary Della at one of the guns shows he worked before he passed away. It's been my EDC for work since then. Probably open and closed 10-20 times a day so I have no complaints about the torsion bar breaking.

We used to always stop by to see Gary at the shows, he'd check your knife to see if the torsion bar was losing tension. If it needed it, he'd replace it while you wait, no charge. I miss seeing him at the gun shows.

I have had a blur for many many years. Have a lot of more expensive knives, but the Kershaw is about as perfect as a pocket knife can get regardless of cost, imo.

This thread reminds me of my first blur that I haven't sent back for repair...a tanto blade one that the tip broke off....

Gotta find it and send it off....
